Re: lugg close season

I am not the biggest fan of the closed season, but would argue that these sort of Rivers, Lugg, Teme etc should always be protected at this time as they are a important Rivers as far as spawning is concerned. As far as 'legering for trout' I take it you merely are trying to stir things up somewhat, Rivers like the Lugg need as much as help as they can, certainly not this nonsense..

"barbeeling" & "legering for trout" always rear their heads around this time. It's not something I agree with either, as most anglers aren't the slightest bit interested in trout or eels from June-March. If you're really that set on fishing the rivers after March 14th, the best option is to fly-fish, or get a salmon licence and some lures etc etc. 1LC doe have a point regarding the Lugg/Teme and even Upper Sev.

Game fishing during the coarse fish close season

You can fish for salmon, trout and other game fish during the coarse fish close season. You have to use certain types of lures and baits in some areas however.

Midlands, Yorkshire, and the north-east and north-west of England

You can only use natural or artificial fly, minnow, worm, shrimp, prawn, sand eel or artificial lures during close season.

Re: lugg close season

I have come across members before “fishing for eels” in the close season and I don’t agree with it.As they have told me they catch more Chub and Barbel than Eels,if they catch any at all. It’s a frustrating loophole that most river anglers don’t take advantage of to be fair.

Re: lugg close season

The problem is that most of these rules are from many years gone by when people's honesty and their word meant something and went n the fact that most people had honest intentions of catching game fish. As both a game and coarse fisherman myself I know that certain flies have a higher tendency to pull up more coarse fish than others, flies which I steer clear of during the coarse close season.
