Just out of curiosity how far downstream have you caught a Grayling and what's the lowest ever recorded? Be it BAA waters or not, anyone know?

Re: Grayling River SevernThe very first time I fished the Severn, in July 1977, I caught one fishing at Hampton Loade on the caravan site water, just fishing stick float and maggot, among a mixed catch of other fish. Didn't think anything of it at the time, the Severn seemed like a slightly bigger version of the Yorkshire rivers where grayling are common. However since moving down here almost 20 years ago I have never seen another in these middle reaches.

Re: Grayling River SevernThanks for the replies guys, must admit Hampton Loade looks perfect for them so there must be something in the water they don't like now, when I've trotted maggots I've picked up quite a few Salmon Parr but the Grayling must be less tolerant. I've certainly fished more urban and 'dirty' Grayling rivers but they run clear in winter so maybe it's just too coloured each winter nowadays?
