Upper Severn fishing report October 2021

This is just what we needed heavy rain the last few days of September and start of October bringing us much needed water, about 1 metre on the first week of October, fantastic for the trotting anglers and barbel men. First couple of days very high unfishable but 4th onwards nice drop of water on and fishing brilliant barbel to 11lb 6oz with lots of 6,7 and 8lb fish coming out. Trotting anglers around Aberbechan and Abermule down to Poolquay now producing some nice bags of chub to 4lb, along with some very nice dace, and grayling. River third and fourth week of month very high and unfishable in most areas, Aberbechan with the extra water on some nice dace and chub along with pike to 8lb. Poolquay and Maginnis Bridge limited areas to fish with high water but areas where fishable still lovely chub, dace and grayling being caught. Always worth a visit around these areas even with high water the quality of the small barbel, chub, and dace coming out is wonderful to see and our spawning grounds are better than ever.

With numbers down this month because of high water levels its lovely to see the ones who have travelled from all over the country come and get there rewards and have a good days sport on the Upper Severn last weekend of month, water very high but one new member still managed a barbel, absolutely stunning fish 12lb 6oz in a very flooded river well done. Look forward to seeing you all in November keep safe and Tight Lines where ever you are fishing.

Kind Regards Mike and Ann Wood Upper Severn Area Bailiffs.
