Dear all.
Thursday 6 September AM around 8ish, peg 37 on the Ripple section of the Severn (BAA waters), after a night session baiting up the swim with 6mm pellet and ground bait I was fishing with my mate Ian Voss who happily hooked into a 26.6lb grass carp smashing his previous PB by 11lb & with a new species of Carp. Ian was using 1.75lb test shimano Beastmaster All Rounder, Shimano 5000 GTE bait runner with 10 lb TFG red mist to 15lb coated braid to size 6 hook with half a large tin of Spam for hook bait. Ian used a standard bite alarm set up similar to carp fishing. After a lot of single bleeps and gentle Bream/Eel like taps, Ian struck into a large dip in the tip before the alarm could even register the bite, he played fish or around 10 minutes in the middle of the river, it kept diving for the near by snags, which Ian had lost fish too earlier that morning. The rod was completely doubled over and you could feel the excitement in the air before the fish was landed. Ian reached for his 28” predator net to scoop the fish, this was point we both realised this was a leviathan of river fish and did not physically fit in the net; I scrambled up to my swim to retrieve my 36” net. After some heart-rending moments we landed the carp, to both our surprise as the shear length of the carp was……. Gigantic, over 3 feet. Capture: Ian Voss BAA F06809
