Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

Who has got the more authority the BAA or the government?Regardless of if the club have closed waters or not the government have told everyone to stay in so people shouldn’t be trying to fish anyway!

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

In these troubled times of Covid-19 all close contact activities have been government controlled.
In my humble opinion some of the requirements are just ''over-the-top''
To me one of the safest activities there could be is angling, so long as a person goes solo.
Driving to a venue no-matter how far, as a single person is 100% safe.
You could pass a thousand infected people on the way and be at zero risk of catching anything yourself.
Keeping a good distance (far more than the recommended 2mtrs) from any other person is a cinch when fishing,
Even if a pool had every peg taken there would be at least a 10mtr space between each other.
Keep your distance from the others fishing and it would be super-safe.
On canals the angler is facing totally in the opposite direction if someone goes past them.
The chance of infection-passover between angler and other towpath uses, is zilch!
Other solo activities such as cycling and canoeing should also come under the extremely low or even no-risk category of passing on or being infected by the Covid-19 virus.
Really those in control should use a bit a common sense and realise that solo activities are no danger to anyone.
Rushing down to the supermarket standing close to each other as they were a couple of weeks ago and panic buying, is a recipe for a disaster.

Can't argue with any of the points you make Tracker, but the point is that we must be seen to be abstaining from angling (however safe it may be), in solidarity with golfers, archers, canoeists, club runners, climbers etc. Once government makes one leisure group exempt from measures, then others will campaign that their past time has no negative impact. Dreadful cliche, but like Boris says - we are all in this together.

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

If other whatever sports etc, ask for a concession, so what?
So long as a safe plan of action can be easily adhered to, so be it.

1. Solo travel to wherever and back again.
2. Solo participation is not a problem, in whatever.
3. If others are doing the same as you, it should easy to maintain a 2mtrs or more safety zone between people.
4. No group meeting before or after, so any clubhouse etc would stay closed.

I would suggest this would be a common sense approach which could easily be policed.

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

The message is stay at home is a necessary rule as any activity involving driving anywhere has the potential to create an accident, thus putting the NHS under more strain.
Its a fine line though, I agree that individuals fishing would not create any problems in that it would seem to be the perfect activity that would comply with social distancing.
But as Anglers I guess we cannot be seen as a special case when so many have to conform to these restrictions.

Johnny Care.

If they daft enough to want to chat, tell them to push-off.
As for being injured, I would lay a bet that a few hundred a day are injured and call on the NHS without leaving their own front door. It's just a part of life.
Even today in spite of Covid-19, hundreds of thousands will be out shopping and it is a guarantee some will be injured.
I have been fishing for over 60 years and only twice has there been a medical emergency at a venue I was at.
One chap died on the bank and the other fell and broke his ankle.
Obviously these things can happen, but you can't run your life on tenuous possibilities.
If you did, you would never do anything and possibly be diagnosed as neurotic.

Onelastcast.

Nowhere did I suggest angling should be a special case.
I stated that ANY ACTIVITY which can be done SAFELY SOLO should not be a problem.

It is people in close proximity to each other that create the danger that is what we should all be concerned about

Tracker.

I wasn't quoting you, just my own thoughts.

However I did say that fishing alone would seem to be safe, so of that we agree.

OK?

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

As frustrating as it all is if everyone sticks to the rules we have been given the quicker we can all get out there again. If all fishing wasn’t banned for now then no doubt the vast majority would stick to the guidelines and fish in isolation but there will always be a few who can’t be trusted and would be in groups or breaking distancing rules.Let’s face it the restrictions in place for everyone at the moment wouldn’t of had to be tightened if people bothered listening and adhering to the government’s advice to start with.

Is it really that difficult? If you want to put your own life and your family's life at risk,go out and risk getting the virus. Otherwise stop at home and try to stay safe. I'm glad Tracker isn't running the country.

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

As the exchanges above reveal, a natural reaction to curtailments on our freedoms inevitably leads to a range of responses from the simple reaction that restrictions are too extreme to those which while accepting of the general thrust of these restrictions, explore ways whereby they might interpret the spirit of the restrictions without following the letter. All make some valid points.

Much as I would like to be fishing right now (it is something I might WANT to do) I have to accept that it is not a necessity (I don't NEED to do it to stay alive). We are in a national emergency the like of which none of us have ever experienced. It requires extreme responses which include the need to stay in one place (home) to reduce both our own chances of being infected and potentially infecting others. Our needs - necessities to maintain (our own and others') lives - to obtain food for example, and those of us who have to go to work to maintain these necessities for the nation: supermarket workers, food processors and distributors, those involved with benefit applications and delivery and related necessary services including emergency services, public transport and all importantly the NHS. Without these groups exposing themselves to greater risks than the rest of us who can generally reduce them, very few of us will continue to have our needs met.

Like so many of us the 'novelty' is wearing thin, but any alternative (until we can cure and prevent the spread and/or have certainty - through mass testing - of the likely dangers) will take us further down the road to social breakdown and chaos. I am afraid we are in for the long haul.

Re: BAA WATERS CLOSED

As with all discussions there appears to be mixed camps of the do’s and don’ts ....well it’s as simple as this, now don’t get me wrong I’ve been a fishing fanatic for well over 40 years,,,,man and boy as the saying goes..so as you can imagine I’m as keen as anybody to get back on the bank.....so as much as I love the BAA and all it does , it’s just a very small fish in a very large pond...( no pun intended)....so on saying that the BAA and all you self’s are NOT the British government, therefore as much as your entitled to your own opinion it really is not worth a toss...facts are you should stay at home as the government told us to do......fishing is not a life or death activity,,,,it’s just a form of entertainment. Which I love as much as you all...
Do as the government have told you. STAY AT HOME
PROTECT THE NHS
SAVE LIFES

Yours hopefully..........Bin

The less risk the sooner we will all be allowed out.....
Simple as that.......tight lines

I'm treating it a an extra long Close Season. Gonna give all my gear a good going over, tie up more rigs etc. Might even 'Map Recce' some different bits of the Severn for a change. Be ready to go when the restrictions are lifted.

Stay Home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.
