Morning all,

Ive just joined the club ready for next year when hopefully we will be back to some sort of normality!

Had a quick question which hopefully someone will be able to answer, I have never caught a Grayling before and wondered which stretch would offer me the best chance - particularly on the float? (Im a keen floatmaker - see pic of recent floats and love my float fishing).

Ive have spent hours looking through the website and the Teme looks stunning - so if somebody could point me in the right direction on there that would be much appreciated!

Kind regards

James

Re: First Grayling

Welcome aboard........66 viewers and not 1 responded,,,,,typical......well this is my best answer. The Teme is a great river for grayling ,I’ve caught many over the years on a stick float when I’m normally fishing for chub on the maggot...don’t bother with the lower venues as they a few and far between, stick to the top end as much as you can ....lindridge erdiston .stanford bridge.....all hold Grayling and trout....( you may need to travel light and do a bit of walking to find a peg as it’s very overgrown at the moment)..... the river Severn also produces some good game fish if again you don’t mind travelling as upstream as much as you can , somewhere by or above the Welsh boarder will definitely get you a Grayling or two......on the positive side when your running your stick through you will get sport of roach chub even barbel as you wait for your target fish .......good luck and tight lines....

Hi and welcome, try eastham bridge, lindridge and eardiston on the teme, also the upper reaches on the Severn would be a good bet, your floats look very impressive.

Re: First Grayling

Hello there Floatmaker
Your floats look stunning and I am sure that you should winkle some Grayling out of the Teme with any of those floats!

I fished the Lindridge stretch on Monday and had my first Grayling in over 60 years of Angling not whoppers but the BAA Office did put my photos of them on the Catch of the week.
I have attached my photo of the Fly Fishing Bloodworm Nymph hook to which I then attached a brandling worm that was successful for me.

As “bin” one of the members has said, travel light, and be prepared for the walk and the stiles
and be prepared to have a fight with the Vegetation!

But once on the water be prepared to be “wowed” by the river and by the Lady of the Stream.

Keep on Fishing

Re: First Grayling

Hi Floatmaker

If you've spoken to Mike Woods the upper Severn Bailiff then you probably have all the information you want, smashing bloke, very helpful.

I love trotting and have had some lovely days catching grayling from the upper Severn. Nothing massive, 1lb 4oz my biggest to date but plenty of fish around the Welshpool area and above.
And, like its already been mentioned, travel light and cover as much water as possible. You'll find some pegs devoid of fish and others where its a bite every run through.

ps......the floats look great.
