It was good to hear about the work recently done at Nordley Pools. I was planning a visit soon and I wondered if anyone had fished there recently and how they did on the day?

Re: Nordley Pools

Good morning Mal

I plan a visit there this weekend so I'll let you know how it was fishing for the variety of anglers that use different methods there. I think I'm going to try Pool 3 for a change.

I tried my usual meat in the margin method on Pool 2 in late March, which can work for Perch as well as Bream & Carp, but blanked. Plenty of carp were cruising on the surface though despite it being a dull day and no one else had any joy, including one specialist carp angler.

The following week I had some maggots to use up after a canal session the previous day so used them up on Pool 1. I had a half decent bag of Perch to 1.1/2lb and roach to 1/2lb. It was only a bit of sport but at least I was catching. No runs again for the carp specialists as far as I know.

If anyone has caught a carp from Pools 1&2 of late, they deserve a medal for sticking it out.smiling

Just seen a nice couple of pics in the Latest News of several thousand of Tench being put into pool #2 at Nordley.

Well done Mr Secretary

Re: Nordley Pools

Hi all

As Pools 3 & 4 are effectively one big pool chopped in half, still connected by the gap in the damn, now serviced by a brand new foot bridge, I can confirm after my visit there yesterday that both pools are now stocked with those tiny tench and they were responding to both maggot and worm offerings in the margins.

I walked round all of the top four pools yesterday afternoon (no one was fishing Pool 5) and spoke to some very nice people. Plenty of Carp swirls in the shallow margins of all pools except Pool 1. The Carp in that pool had congregated up the shallower carpark end, lying just under the surface. A beautiful sight.

Two of the of anglers I met were familiar faces who specialise in fishing for Carp. One was on Pool 2, the other on Pool 3. Both confirmed activity earlier in the day. One had bagged 3 commons up to @10lb. He also showed me a photograph of a rare fish to see at Nordley these days, a Mirror/Leather Carp that he'd caught over the winter. A beautiful well proportioned, deep bodied fish, " ...as fat as butter" to quote "onelastcast".

No Bream showing yet as most of them are mature and getting ready to breed, but no skimmers either yesterday, not even to those using maggot.

I blanked on corn and meat offerings. I didn't take maggots so missed out on the non-stop little tech sport on Pool 3.

Never mind, I had a lovely day with good company around me too.

Keep fishingsmiling

Re: Nordley Pools

It's good to hear that fish are showing at Nordley. After reading reports of fish perhaps being poached and other negative stories I was beginning to fear that Nordley wasn't worth visiting anymore.

I'm a bit more hopeful having read Stew1955's post so I'll give it a try.
