Morning Gentlemen. I have in my diary that saturday 25th is the date for the re-arranged knock up between members of the forum, on the Staffs-Worcs at Wolverley? I put my name down originally and am still ok to take part. Could organisers please confirm that this is definitely going ahead and also details of times? Hope to meet some of you on the 25th.

Hello Fellow Forum D’anglers,
As this is the 3rd File on the Issac Walton Plate Contest, I have attached the last list of the Forum D’anglers that have a Peg to their Name.

It also has ALL the details for the Contest, including the Start and Finish Time the Peggers and Weighers.

I hope that this helps you all.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 25th

Keep on Fishing…

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Thanks for clarification. Update on venue, although I have rarely fished it, walked it a few times over the winter. The lock repairs at Wolverley are now complete and canal open to boats. Over winter when closed, water crystal clear, like a chalk stream. Couldn't see any small fish or silvers, but did spot one shoal of decent chub that seemed pretty nomadic. There is one very shallow area where the canal narrows through a cutting and rock falls have deposited a lot of sand on bottom, making it very shallow all the way across. May be best to avoid pegging here. Speaking to locals, don't think many skimmers show this far down, so suspect target fish will be roach, perch and chub. Hope this doesn't give too many secrets away, but this contest is supposed to be a bit of fun and this information may help those travelling from some distance who have never seen the venue.

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Thanks for the info Mickgrove, guess I'll leave the barbel gear at home then, 6oz feeders and 11mm pellets may look out of place!

But as you say, it's just as much about a good laugh and a social on the day. Though I dare say it will be a tad competitive also.

Looking forward to the day, it will be the first match I've fished for about 10 years at least. A few hours fishing in good company, a pint and a chat in the pub after, what's not to like?

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Hi gb123,
Family first mate.
Not to worry
This will be the first of an Annual Contest to fish for the Issac Walton Plate.

So all being well you will be able to fish the follow up yet to be confirmed but no doubt this will be the subject of the “Post Match” get together in the Boozer.

Wish your Wife a Happily Birthday from the Forum D’anglers.

Keep on Fishing….

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Hi gb123 from me too.

If memory serves me correct it will also be your Wedding Anniversary on that day, so have a good'n and congratulations to you both.

As a local to the SW Cut who in all my 56yrs of fishing had never fished the Venue section until you suggested its potential to us back in the Autumn of 2022, I would like to add a special thank you for suggesting it in the first place. I'd never bothered with the canal in the Winter before and I've really enjoyed my fishing sessions there of late.

Ta! Stewsmiling

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Having pleasure fished for most of my 65 years, and having never fished in a match before, I am getting quite excited about this Saturday - something very different for me. I have spent the last two days trying to attach a string of number 10 shot to a rig. Given up now and am opting for a heavier set up, probably involving some swan shot. Bait preparation tomorrow and those Wolverley fish can expect a smorgasbord of maggots, pinkies, casters, worms and bread. And sweetcorn. Just in case. I have dug out a second keep net in anticipation - I assume there will be a 50lb limit on what can be kept in one net? Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday. You will recognise me - I will be the old bloke with two keep nets.

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest - evoking fishing memories from our past

Hello Fellow Forum D’anglers,
I have been reading the replies from the very outset when Carlingford59 came up with this idea of a “Scramble Fishing Match” for the Forum readers and writers, and what a great idea, it may only result in 15 Pegs with anyone else to tag on below, but what a response and interest it has generated!

I would guess that most if not all of us remember reading the original “Angling Times Newspaper” This publication with the black and white pictures that appeared in it had me captivated and hooked on fishing. Plus the Mr. Crabtree Goes Fishing books that I was lucky enough to receive as a Christmas gift, just made me from the age of five want to, Keep on Fishing..

I remember reading those AT’s and the names of those fishing greats of the past come to mind, Billy Lane, the King of the Float, Fred Forster, the Swingtip King, Ivan Marks and the Likely Lads from Leicester, the Ashurst’s, the Bloodworm Aces from the North West and not forgetting our very own BAA and Brummie Legends, Clive Smith and Ken Giles!

I was inspired by them but happy to catch what I could or a lot of the time couldn’t, BUT, that is the joy of D’angling, even on a day that we blank we are out and see sights that we don’t sat at home!

Looking forward to meeting you all on Saturday, and I am really hoping to Weigh in all of you, here’s hoping.

Keep on Fishing…

Re: Postponed Issac Walton Plate Contest

Hi Keith

Very diplomatically put Gaffa (LOL)

For those who of you who have only just joined our discussions, the photo attached is of the best of my last weekend's catch at The Venue, from yet another part of the section that I'd never fished before (the middle).

Mick may only need the one net but the odds are he'll need his Landing Net on several occasions for the Quality fish on offer. I would not be surprised if the winning bag is well into double figures (not me, 6lb 11oz is my best to date, but then I fish Lazy Man style and use no more than £1.50 worth of bait.

Fingers crossed for all of you on Saturday. I've already had my fun there.so I'd be happy with the Wooden Spoon smiling
