Went for what I intended to be my last visit here. (Pool 1) Did better than my previous two trips, didn`t have a bite as before but I did see some fish !!. Total of 8 or 9, all good size, cruising around. Couple of points, the pool is now very weedy, every cast I would hook a strand or two growing up from the bottom, not showing at the surface, even in the deeper parts. Found a small area, close in, where I could fish fairly comfortably. Other minor problem, which I would have expected to be announced, is the work going on to increase the height of the embankment. Around half has been done, work finishes at about 4.30. Pool 2 very weedy. Couple more turned up but did not fish.
Still don`t go along with the flooding theory, the river heights don`t back it up. Also still haven`t seen an otter.

Thanks for the update. Sounds a bit grim. I know that several local fisheries have installed otter fences, and this seems to be the only viable option.

Re: Retreat Farm Continued From April (KenL)

Visited Retreat for the first time this year a few days ago, it seemed completely devoid of any fish.
The water was that clear you could see all the way to the island on Pool 1 but no evidence of any carp at all, it was a lovely warm evening but not a single fish could be seen on the surface or just below it.

They have built the banks up around pools 1 and 2 presumably to help with the flooding, but have BAA restocked at all, pool 1 was under "the severn" in 2019 and 2020", summer 2020 it had a massive amount of 4" baby carp - now it seems to have been netted and completely emptied.

Pool 3 is presumably still empty of fish as they did not build the banks up around it, I walked around each lake but saw no evidence of predators.

Has anyone caught anything here recently or is it just another to add to the empty pool collection that we seem to have, Nordley springs to mind.

Re: Retreat Farm Continued From April (KenL)

I tried it a month ago on a clear sunny day and had no bites or saw any indication of fish.
But a local who'd come to feed the swans said he had seen a nice carp caught the week before so there are still fish in there - just not many and there appear to be no smaller fish.
It's a shame as it's a gorgeous setting with nice pegs and given the raised banks now provide flood protection it would really benefit from restocking.

It looks like it will take some time to get back to how it used to be. I went last year and didn't do well - see my post here:-http://www.baa.uk.com/forums/general-chat/retreat-farm-pools-reques...

I'll be checking for reports of improved fishing before I try again
