The Fisheries team was at Stacklands (Kings Caple) today doing prep for the 16th June.

We've put up signs, there's one on the gate to help you find it.

We've created a car park alongside the fishing hut, all signed and fenced, please use it, don't park on the bank and don't block the gate to the next meadow as it's in use daily by the farmer.

We've created additional pegs especially in meadows 2 & 3 which was a bit challenging as the river was well up.

The walk from the car park area to the bank is very short.

When you enter the gate from the road into the field (please close the gate), drive on the track alongside the fence to you right, which will take you direct to the parking area and hut.

Be careful around the hut as bees are nesting in it!

Please enjoy it as it's a very beautiful location, and post pictures of what you catch on the forum.

I've also added an additional route to the Stacklands Where To Fish webpage (Approaches) that gets you within about 5 miles of the fishery before you have to leave the motorway/main roads.

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

When we went to view the water prior to purchase back in late March, from what we could see the upstream end of the fishery looked shallow, it's also on the inside of a gentle curve with the result that the water around the bank also looked shallow. So I would recommend the upstream end furthest away from the footbridge.

There are also some old salmon fishing concrete platforms that extend well out into the river in the downstream meadow close to the fishing hut/car park, these may be good for a bit of trotting.

Take care when wading and let us know how the fishing goes and what you catch, pictures would also be appreciated.

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

ok thanks for that admin - it sounds interesting. looking forward to giving it a try presently. hereford club waters have a maggot ban on the wye until 26 september if my memory serves me well. presumably the humble maggot can be used at stacklands from 16/6 ?

Let's just hope the usual idiots can refrain from leaving a load of litter like so many of our stretches.

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

Here in the BAA office we have been inundated with inquiries about this exciting new fishery. To such an extent that i fear for the number of members who are intending to go there, especially on June 16. Members should be aware that the fishery has no built pegs, is largely natural and that it hasn't been fished for many years. As a consequence, the number of anglers which can be accommodated is very limited.
If you were intending to visit in the first few days of the season - my advice is to wait a while and let things settle down. There will be ample opportunity as the season goes on to sample this wonderful river venue.

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

Had a trip down there to see what the stretch was like, typical middle Wye, but low and fairly sluggish at the bottom end, hopefully the weekend rain will kick things off. Deeper water on near bank at the bottom, couldn't see any larger chub from the bridge, few smaller ones in the weeds downstream of the bridge and a couple of sizeable perch in the margins. Very tempted for the 16th if we get some more rain first, early start though!!

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

I was thinking of going to Stacklands on Friday 19th June with a couple of other members, but with what I have now read on the forum I don't want to travel one and a half hours only to discover I can't fish. Does anyone know roughly how many anglers the stretch will comfortably hold? Does anyone know of a day ticket close by that we could fish should we not be able to get in?

Thanks

Curt

Re: Stacklands new Wye fishery

Evening Ladies and Gentlemen.

I am one of the Bailiffs allocated to this fishery. I've been down to the swim every evening for the last fortnight and have to say the river is looking in great nick. (I've also been pre-baiting a swim so no jumping in it please! smiling )

A reminder to everyone that the field is used by a local farmer, there are currently sheep grazing in it, so PLEASE ensure that the gate is shut and secure, drive only on the track directly to the parking area next to the Salmon hut, absolutely no cars on the bank. There are nesting Sand Martins in the high bank so please be aware when walking the banks and try not to disturb them too much.

I will be at the fishery all day on Tuesday and in the evening for rest of the week, my colleague will be patrolling at other times.

Please make sure you have your membership cards for us to check. I take a zero tolerance view on litter, there is absolutely no excuse for it, please take it home with you, this is an outstanding stretch of water in stunning surroundings, lets please keep it that way. Please do no enter the fishery until an hour before sunrise at 3.44am, there is no night fishing allowed at the fishery and there are no day permits available. Strictly members only.

As previously mentioned pegs have been cut out but it is pretty wild still. Some of the banks are steep so please be careful.

Look forward to seeing you on the bank. Tight lines everyone.
