This still remains one of my favourite BAA stretches and it's definitely worth the long walk if you're after barbel - today was no exception with three fighting fit fish up to 7lb. Just a couple of thoughts - do anglers fishing for barbel using swim-feeder tactics really need to use bite alarms?
Surely if you are continually feeding your swim it is unnecessary - most barbel bites are usually unmissable and it's bloody irritating to hear the incessant buzzing throughout the day. Also, I note that someone has removed a large bush/branch which I'm convinced shaded a holding spot for fish during the day - why do people insist on removing what was a great feature?
Anyway, whingeing over, great stretch - just wish it was closer to home!

Why do most anglers feel the need to use bite alarms, its not really fishing is it?

I can understand their use in carp fishing but definitely not for river fishing for barbel!

Totally agree,I'd much rather watch the tip wrap round than sat behind an alarm.

I am of an age to have never appreciated such a device, if I have to use any aid it is a bit of silver paper or a bread bobbin.
But I admit I have bought one...from Sports Direct ...cost me £2.99 (without battery that cost me more) I intend to play with it in venues like Fladbury to get my own back on the orchestra that performs there. smiling

What does continuously feeding your swim mean? Aren't we supposed to just cast out and hope for something to happen, that's what everyone else seems to do grin

re the bush I'd be surprised if it was anglers removing any feature, think Stanley has had a trim in places too probably the ea
