I visited Aberbechan for the first time on Saturday and this post is more of an observation than a subject for discussion.
There is no mention of it, neither in the handbook nor in the "Where to fish" section of this Website, but there is now a second car park at Aberbechan, a stone's throw across the road from the original car park shown on the BAA Map.
Oh joy. This stretch of water is immaculately maintained by the Team up there and the new car park is adjacent to the deeper, slow flowing section, perfect access for the less intrepid angler who just enjoys a day out at a Beauty Spot. It's so much like the Teme.
To be honest, I took the wrong tackle with me, being a middle Severn "Barbel Basher" at heart, so had chance to get some exercise and familiarize myself with this entire BAA stretch.
What a cracking day out I had. Thanks Team.

Regards

Re: Aberbechan parking

Very accessible in places. The most accessible swims are those adjacent to the car parks.
The team have strimmed a pathway along most of the bank both below and above the bridge and have made it obvious where its safe to drop down to the water's edge. There are stretches though where that is not possible to do so. There is no obvious access yet to the stretch immediately above the bridge. Whether there are plans are afoot, I don't know.
Its very much like the Teme except that the Severn here has had to calve its way through Granit-like rock rather than Sandstone.
Its running at a low level at the moment and there are a few pebble beaches & islets particularly along the upper half of the stretch, but there is limited access to them because of the bank becoming ever steeper and rockier the closer you get to the weir.
I hope that helps.smiling

Cow me, I've misspelt "Carve" in the post above. I must have been thinking about how Ox Bows are formed, Apologies for my atroshus spelling at times.smiling
