Hi all,
New to BAA but in my 55th year of freshwater angling, I have seen the stretch at Aberbechan as I pass through Welshpool - Newtown a fair few times each year.

Basically, I want to catch grayling and chub, either on bait or fly gear and also a few trout on the fly. Any info or advice on this lovely looking stretch would be very welcome.
Thanks, Colin.

Re: Aberbechan & Penarth

Hi Colin, like you I'm a fairly new member to the club and am hoping to fish this venue in the next 2 weeks before the end of the season. I cant offer you any help I'm afraid but am interested in any replies you receive. I have however fished a mile or so downstream at a place called Abermule.
I would suspect the venues to be similar in features and fish species. I had 20 or so grayling last year to about 1lb, plus a couple of salmon par.....and an ugly looking bullhead all on the float trotting white maggots. If you fish it please let us know how you get on

Re: Aberbechan & Penarth

Unless I.m wrong, I think you may be Brian who I replied to on the facebook page re:Apley. If so. hello again.if not, sorry. I am hoping to fish this water on Sunday if I can. I know the area well (including Abermule) but not too clued up with the Severn in the locality. I don't mind a good walk along the river as long as I know where I can go and where I can't regarding fishing rights etc.
By the way, the guidebook will be very useful when fishing unfamiliar waters, nice job BAA.

Hoping to catch a few grayling but more of a recce trip for future days out through the year.
Will definitely let you know how it goes.
Colin.

Re: Aberbechan & Penarth

Hi Brian,
Weather looking quite poor for tomorrow so may be next weekend for me too.
Might see you there. If you see a red 62 plate focus, I'm around somewhere.
Colin.
