I have just been given some quite old tackle amongst which was a Shakespeare Match International reel, closed face type from around the sixties I guess, pic attached. I have tried to get the spool off to put new line on but can't budge it, I have done the obvious and pressed the front of the spool which is quite free but no joy, the reel winds really smooth so being old school would like to give it a go. Anyone any ideas or had one in the past.

As for the amusement, also amongst the lot were four more reels one of which was a ''Gladding Boy'o, what sort of a name is that for a reel, no doubt they were going for the welsh market, one of an almost matching pair the other being a 'Black Prince' having a chrome handle and L or R wind. Real [no pun intended] budget models these. Pics attached.

Thanks chaps, very much appreciated. Doing it pretty well right but was a bit over cautious, didn't want to force anything. The Shakespeare all spooled up and ready to go and give it a whirl. With any luck I might catch something for a change. Having said that I had a nice barbel from the Avon at Parks Farm Monday, not a specimen, around 6 to 7lb I would guess, but a nice chunky fish. Thanks to the bailiff for taking the pic [attached] Also a cracking pike on at Fladbury yesterday, a mid double I would think, after a right run around it won the battle before I got it in the net. You win some you lose some.
