Aggressive behaviour at Stubbs

Anyone thinking of venturing down to Stubbs should be aware of the numerous 'youths' (nicest term I can apply) roaring around the water on quad bikes. When firmly but politely confronted they threatened to smash up my car. Charming. I went out for a quiet afternoon's fishing and am now a marked man.

If it is the same family of crims that are legendry in the Cheltenham area they will be well known to the police, you really should report it, they cannot just get away with making treats to people or property.

Really are a nasty bunch, but they thrive on fear.

I've been advised on various forums not to fish Cleeve Prior, because of gypos/undesirables. I assume that this is the same crowd.

Re: Aggressive behaviour at Stubbs

Most Police operations are now Intelligence lead so the more reports the Police get then they are obligated to attend or at least investigate.
Therefore it is most important that we all report antisocial behaviour or criminal activity on the River bank.
I have also had issues at Stubbs Pool I did dial 101 to report it.

12 Months ago Evesham & District Angling Association did have a situation with Eastern Europeans drinking and antisocial behaviour on the river bank in the centre of Evesham which was for Disabled Anglers Only.
When we complained to the Police they said that they had not had any reports.
We made sure the Police were informed on a regular basis, it took a bit of time but it is now sorted, the area has now been made a "No Drinking Zone" and they have moved on.
So Dial 101 and report it.

This is where the trusty bank stick comes in handy!

Tempting as the bank stick option is I would avoid it. You can guarantee you would get reported to the police and it would all be your fault.

Toerags like these usually know their way round the system and aren't afraid to use it to their own advantage.

Phone the police/BAA but don't play these idiots at their own game, you will lose. They've had more practice than you.

Re: Aggressive behaviour at Stubbs

Thanks for your comments guys. The whole situation was particularly upsetting as I've just moved into the area from Essex and this was my first BAA outing. I've not had a single issue or altercation in over 40 years of fishing. Stubbs being very local to where I now live I was looking forward to a campaign on this clearly challenging water - but I hadn't factored in physical aggression...

So...putting that aside: have heard Coppice is a bit over-fished, but nothing much about Mythe? Any other recommendations welcomed by this gravel pit friendly Essex bloke?

Aside from that I am really looking forward to having a crack at the Barbel. Having never fished for them before I am sure BAA can easily redeem itself in this regard. Any recommendations for river stretches very much welcomed, but probably not Cleeve Prior..!

Re: Aggressive behaviour at Stubbs

As an update, I have reported the incident to the police. They have requested that any further situations be reported to them by BAA members.

I fish Stubbs, never catch, but still find it more rewarding than fishing the over fished Coppice. If you want to go and catch big commons, fish Coppice. I fish it once or twice a year to test rigs, damp my line. It is a lovely lake mind, don't get me wrong. I have heard the "nairdowells" on bikes never seen them. It's one of my favourite places to blank!
The BAA have some great river spots for Barbel and Chubb. Pm me for details, if you want more info. Glad to help.
Time for the pike now anyway

Well said SelfieFish,
If you after Pike, then try Stubbs Pool I have spotted two in the margins but am sure there are more than just the two in there.
We may be targeting them this winter ( the weather keeps the local population in there encampment)

Martbass if its Big bream bags and Tench your after Mythe is Cracking but it can be hard going. There is the odd carp as well but these prove a real challenge to catch. Also plenty of Rudd to be caught when its warm.
