I have just been informed by some one I know who is a keen barbel angler who travels from Birmingham to Severn Stoke , About a 40 minutes drive from where he lives ,Was pulled over by the police and asked where he had come from and where he was going ?and why he was so far away from where he lived . They explained that their A.N.P.R camera had pinged when they drove up behind him . When he explained he was going fishing at Severn Stoke. They told him he was breaking lock down rules and slapped a £200 fine on him .

So guys just be careful and stay local and avoid a hefty £200 fine

Re: Breaking lock down rules ?

I know we're all gagging to get out, me as much as anyone. But a 40 minute trip is taking the mick.

The nearest river venues to me are around the Evesham area - about 15 miles away. Which is a different county and as far as I can judge, still isn't 'local'. So I'm sitting tight and waiting until we can travel a little further.

Rules is rules whether we agree with them or not, so let's stick by them and hope they're relaxed soon.

Quite a few at SS, and other LS venues this weekend just passed. Taking part in a tagging scheme with Hull and Bournemouth Universities. All involved had official emails from the EA and the Universities involved I believe. I was told the Police were present on the car park at SS about 10 days ago, no-one was approached.

Re: Breaking lock down rules ?

I’m as keen as everyone.....I live in the heart of Birmingham, so most people know I’m restricted to my own bubble....so as much as I love all my river access I do get restricted by the rules/law. I’ve been fishing on my local canal in and around brum and it opened my eyes to how much fun I’ve been missing....I , the same as most battered the local as much as you all.....man and boy...I loved when I was a kid and didn’t drive.....then I lost my place and traveled all over the country fishing matches....now I’m locked down I’ve realised that some of the best fishing is on my doorstep... I went recently and got 5lb a good weight of roach to anyone’s standard....great eye opener........I’ve traveled a lot of miles for less....... at the moment....stay local,,, stay safe..........please

Perhaps when the police turned up at SS and no one was approached ? When they seen how muddy the banks were. Perhaps they did not want to get their boots caked in mud and thought better of it.

On a serious note.If you are prepared to take the risk and travel further than the rules suggest
'' Stay Local '' then don't moan or complain when a police car pulls you over and you land your self a £200 fine

It’s a shame the police don’t show up at Severn Stoke to catch them all parked up smoking weed,I’m not down there that often but it’s happened every time I’ve been there.

Popular pastime on Worcestershire car parks Stew. Pixham up the road is the same. There were two lunatics swimming in the river last week, it was freezing, maybe they'd been on it before they got in.

It appears '' Wild swimming'' is becoming more popular , They say its good for your well being and mental health ? Who in their right mind would want to swim in the Severn ? When you consider what get released in to the river from time to time ?

Actually featured this on Countryfile recently, the female presenter swam from the launch area Lower Lode Tewkesbury river Severn. I worry about my dogs doing that.

Yes it is taking the pee. Some people are ignoring and trying to bend the rules of staying local.

Hopefully this nightmare will end soon and we can all get back to normal by June 16th

Re: Breaking lock down rules ?

The nearest river to me is the Severn which is about a 30 minute drive, So is not local , So in theory I would be breaking lock down rules .The W/Avon is not local to me either .The Wye is not local to me either . So once again I would be breaking lock down rules. Yes like the rest of us that are sticking to the rules we cant go fishing at the moment.

You say JC its very sad ?Yes it is sad that some people are choosing to ignore the local down rules and not staying local to go fishing . Just out of curiosity when you recently caught your new barbel pb of 14 lb 13 ozs that you posted on B F W were you fishing local ?

With the season nearly at an end . Hopefully things will be back to normal for June 16th when the season starts again

Three foot twitch there!!

Almost as predictable as you starting this thread a few hours after I posted, Jeff. You seem a tad, well, obsessed. Are you after a guiding session with me? xx
