With Stiles being such an inconvenience as well as an obstruction to the anglers with trolleys can we talk with the landowners so that we can install “Kissing Gates”
I have attached a photo from an online supplier of such a product it would make access a lot easier and make the venues more appealing to visit knowing that you are less likely to get a hernia for your efforts.
Keep on fishing

It should go without saying that styles are also a major problem for many people who are getting on of have a physical impairment.
With fishing not exactly being a young man's sport, anything that retains members and enables them to continue participating should be considered.

I know there's a kissing gate on the salwarpe stretch but it's not a very generous size making it a bit of a squeeze to get your gear through, however since the introduction of the conservation area there are now 2or3 extra stiles in the meadows to contend with which doesn't help.

Hi Kent & Stewpar
Glad to see your replies and that you are sympathetic to my original post, if you have not viewed the Kissing gate image that I posted it is of a generous size which is what our Association in collaboration with the landowners should now be putting up on the waters that we are renting or owning.
I have tried to whittle down the amount of gear that I now take with me but the stiles are a challenge even with a small trolley!

The problem I can see is cost. We own/lease probably over 100 miles of river. How many styles are there on our stretches? who decides which ones are changed? Just out of interest how much is the one pictured?

Re: Change Stiles to Kissing Gates?

Hi Brummymoorey
I have no idea on the cost of the gate that I shared as an attachment.
and as you have quite rightly point out we have a lot of waters, and If we can sound out the Fisheries Teams and Bailiffs in the first instance perhaps we can put an action plan together that can prioritise the venues that would attract more anglers sooner rather than later!

Keep on Fishing is my motto and at the moment we as an association are not attracting anglers who want an easy peg or less hassle than it currently is to get to some of our pages!

Trouble is, even if the cost was justified, these metal gates get stolen for scrap..

I appreciate your intentions and I agree big gates would be brilliant but what you have to remember is that a lot of our river venues are accessed from public footpaths which are controlled by multiple organisations like the national trust,Arley estates and the Severn way to name a few,

Unfortunately, I don't have any data on style related injuries but a lot of them are in a rather poor state of repair and I would have thought that the risk of litigation due to injuries incurred would be sufficient to prompt action on this.
