I cannot see how a barbless hook can cause more damage than a barbed hook, if a barbless is not set firmly and slips out, it will surely just slip out. If a barbed hook comes out it is logic that the barb may catch and tear the fish in some way.

Lead / weights, is it really neccesary to have 4oz [ quarter of a pound ] of lead on a rig to hook the fish. What happened to fishing ? having a fish yank a 1/4 pound chunk of lead to hook itself while sitting in your bivvy nowhere near your rod 'aint fishing, this can't be good for the fish. One more gripe, watching various videos, there seems to be a trend towards holding the rod very low and applying lots of side strain when playing a fish, this can only pull the line into the corner of the mouth, where most damage appears to be, a bad practice in my view. In the main I agree with bobrich, 20lb line etc. Surely at Coppice 10 to12lb line and a size 10 or 8 maximum hook is more than enough.
