Cotheridge Teme

Just returned from a trip to Cotheridge and would like to report the following...
Access was tricky as some genius has decided to erect two badly fitted metal gates, making access difficult for the lone angler. More worryingly, four of the five chub I caught all showed damage to their tail fins and bloody wounds. Could this be evidence of otter attack?
Any other members had similar experiences?

That gate is an accident waiting to happen, it doesn't even have hinges, just string! And it weighs a fu#king tonne!
I've seen otters at Broadwas and pawprints at Cotheridge but no signs of attack, yet...

Re: Cotheridge Teme

Perhaps I was being too polite - you're spot on Belsh. Slipped a disc in Feb at Bransford - worried I might do the same with that bloody gate.
Had any barbel out from Cotheridge this season?

Re: Cotheridge Teme

None yet. Not even seen any. Had a few decent chub.
I'm a bit pissed off at the general state of Cotheridge. It seems to be a fly-tippers paradise, peppered with bonfires and pointless gates! Is there no minimum standard that the Society expects of the landowners so that anglers can safely fish the venue?
I doubt Cotheridge would meet such a safety standard in its current state.
And those bloody horses keep licking my car....

Must admit I'll think twice before visiting again. Shame as it's a lovely stretch.

Re: Cotheridge Teme

I fished it a week ago..no Barbel only chub.
It is very dangerous with the gates, and the horses licked my car and caused about £200 of damage, it will be along time before I fish it again if ever...like you said it used to be a brilliant stretch of the Teme...now it's more like a skip dumping ground for the gypsy landowners.

Not happy

Re: Cotheridge Teme

Hi all, I posted a while back that the general state, access and overall fishing pegs on the Teme is pretty awful to be honest. Cotheridge, Braodwas and the new stretch have very few fishable pegs, access to them is not great. Would it not be in the clubs intrest to drop venues like this and go for a more premium stretch. There a a few along there which are well cared for and a lot better.
The Bransford stretch has no decent parking either. Thoughts!!!!

Re: Cotheridge Teme

I've always found the pegs themselves at Cotheridge reasonably accessible - steep and tricky in places, but typical Teme terrain. The apparent lack of barbel and the "gate challenge" worry me more. Hopefully someone will be out to clear some of the Bransford pegs as it is tricky at the moment -I've always managed to park in the lay-by myself.

Re: Cotheridge Teme

Can't comment on gate and fly tipping as haven't been this season but the moaning about pegs and lack of barbel....

It's the teme, easy access and flat pegs aren't what this river is about and if that's a gripe the club has enough miles on other rivers in the same county to please! Barbel on there has been dead (in relative terms to what it was) since 07 and even worse recently

Average size of chub nowadays tells you what's there

Still a fantastic stretch of river to fish and be at

Cotheridge/Leigh

As Cotheridge seems to have more than it's fair share of issues at the moment - gates, fly-tipping, car damaging horses etc, wouldn't it be a good idea to fish at Leigh/Oxbow lake as it is basically the opposite side of the river?
Have any of you guys fished it or even managed to find it?

Re: Cotheridge Teme

DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR TO COTHERIDGE.

On Sunday I went to cotheridge. I parked my car on the car park and walked down stream for a look. After 10 minutes I decided not to fish as it was too low and not enough fish showing. I walked back to the car to find 20 -30 horses surrounding it. They all seemed to be licking it, one shire horse had it's hoof on my bonnet.
So I shouted at them to move from a distance of course and then they turned worse, scratching the bonnet with hooves, one kicked a football sized dent in the rear panel, front and rear bumpers have been loosened, various other body scratches and a car covered in horse saliva. Cotheridge is a complete no go it should be closed. The BAA need to announce this. The fence to the car park is down, horses will damage car and may even damage you as they seem a little territorial over cars!

Just read the news update - thank you for dealing so promptly with this annoying situation. Hopefully the gates won't reappear!

Re: Cotheridge Teme

I want to get down next week to the Teme, how is it fishing, any advice on where to head for, particular pegs?
How's the new stretch on the Teme not seen any reports, is that good or bad news?

Re: Cotheridge Teme

Haven't been for a while now to Cotheridge - wondered if anyone has been since the gate problem has been addressed. Fished Bransford on Wed and I've never known it so overgrown - Himalayan Balsam is way out of control and few swims fishable. However, managed a lovely trout of about pound and half and plenty of chub up to 3lb. Water was extremely clear and float fished with caster on size 20. My advice is look for the deeper areas close to faster water. If you can see the fish, they can see you! No barbel showing unfortunately.

Fished Cotheridge this evening. All is back to normal. No gate and no horses. Good luck.
