Hi guys well its still bloody freezing and the rivers are all still banking, so ill be staying in for the enforceable until things improve.

I know I've done this debate before but I cant remember the last time we did it so lets do it again.

I remember when we first did it and there was an overwhelming response for a venue on the river Wye that the Baa came up trumps with.

I remember asking the Baa guys at Evesham why the club didn't have a water on the Wye and they felt people wouldn't travel that far.

Johnny its interesting to hear you say that the club may have a new stretch on the Avon I hope its West Hillsbourgh. I used to love that place when the WDAAS had it.

Well for me ide love a water on the middle Trent. Not likely to happen I know as those good waters are like gold dust.

Over to you guys what waters would you like to see the club acquire

Atb Dave

Re: New venues

I think a lot of anglers would be prepared to travel if the fishing was good, however it's nice if you've got good venues on your doorstep. I'd give the Worcestershire stour a shout, most of it by me is not run by any clubs and seems tò go to waste sad

Re: New venues

I agree Stewpar some more water on the Stour would be great. Not sure if access to it could be a problem though?

Re: New venues

I think any one who lives in the Midlands are spoiled for choice . The Severn,Teme,W/Avon are all in a reasonable travel time

The Wye is not that far away . I was talking to a couple of guys at Severn Stoke last year and they had come all the way from London .

Re: New venues

Yeah if you like travelling it's good.I'm at least 40 miles from all the rivers we have to fish. The miles add up through out the year and cost of cause. If i had the choice I would definitely move somewhere near the wye.Somewhere near Hereford would be perfect for me.Just wondering if any body else had a choice where would you like to move to and cut down on traveling.Lottery win may be needed.LOL

Re: New venues - We need to be Making Good some of the Pegs in Existing Waters

If we acquire any new fisheries then great.

But we need to look at the Association existing waters and see what we need to do to make them better to fish from, cutting out pegs, trimming back jungle growth, putting in fishing stages, repairing bridges.

There are some members suggesting an increase in the Annual Membership fee to help fund this, an increase of a fiver for pensioners and a tenner for the workers would be my suggestion.

Keep on Fishing

Re: New venues

Love all the posts about new venues and travelling time. The BAA book is great value to fish some of our rivers. Coming from the East Midlands I have to travel 50 to 70 miles to fish the likes of the Severn and avon. I do have the Anker close by so on a selfish note any new stretches of the Tame near Tamworth would cut down travelling time. But it is a Birmingham book and even though I only use it about 15 times a year its great value when you consider the cost of day tickets.
It would be interesting too know who travels the furthest to fish BAA waters?

In reply to Tippers

I am a member of Kingsbury AC who released a stretch of the Tame right behind Kingsbury water park. I believe its now free fishing so it might be worth a look if the BAA are serious about obtaining new venues. Mate of mine lives in Kingsbury itself and fishes the Tame a lot, regularly has chub to over 5lb on cheese paste. Think the old days of pollution have long gone. Kingsbury AC also have a stretch of the Tame just as it joins the River Anchor. I pleasure fish it regular. Chub, dace, big perch, roach, pike and gudgeon are plentiful. Barbel were stocked several years ago but I've yet to see one.

Re: New venues

There are plans in place to do maintenance on BAA fisheries in the future using appointed contractors. Regarding the construction of platforms, it is not always possible, usually depending on whether the BAA own the land as well as the fishing rights.

Re: New venues

I have regularly spoken to guys at Arley who holiday in the area from the west country, and for £40 fishing is peanuts to fish without the need for day tickets. it's an annual thing for them and their mates and family !

Re: New venues

Hi my name is Jeff ,myself and two friends travel from near Portsmouth every Oct.(40yrs)and spend the week fishing the wye and Severn. I am now a senior citizen but happy to pay my £30 for no more than three days fishing BAA waters. Unfortunately the last two years have been total wash outs but nothing we can do about the weather.
I only fish rivers from Oct till end of season. My “local” club is Ringwood which is a minimum of 120mls return journey which I would do at least twice a week if conditions allow. Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to fish since Xmas because of the travel restrictions , so with that and the floods it’s been a disastrous season but with everything else that’s been going on it’s somewhat irrelevant !!
Cottage already booked for October and looking forward to a few days on the Severn , fingers crossed.
Stay Safe Jeff.

Re: New venues

It would be interesting to know what new venues from anglers out of the region would suggest seeing that's what the original thread was about?
Maybe they'd like some water closer to home to them ;)
