We booked seven stoke meadows 5 6&7 for a club match on the 16/8/2015 as we have not fished it for some time. When we arrived the two people who peg out said that there is going to be a problem trying to find 8 pegs to fish. I accompanied the peggers out and we walked the whole three meadows to find there was only 7 half decent pegs. Fortunately for us, not all of our club members turned out for the match. If they had we would have had to abandon the match.
I know your bank cleaning team do a great job but this needs some serious work. Where the original pegs were, they are now just vertical drops down to the water of approx. 8 foot high. If any clubs are thinking of booking this venue, beware if you have older members due to health and safety issues.
As I remember from years gone by this used to be a prime stretch and never a problem finding pegs. As you see from our result it fished really well, with all our members catching fish along the whole three meadows.
Hopefully the issues will soon be resolved and we can get the stretch back up to scratch.

Many Thanks

Brian

Re: no pegs

i also fished severn stoke that morning..after seeing that 5 6 and 7 where booked for the contest i walked up to my usual spots in the other fields 1 to 4..just me and one other guy the whole morning at least 12 very accessable pegs the first few on very flat stable rocks, continuing up the field to the bend most pegs have good "steps" to the bank . Apart from the constant row boats using that stretch as the turning circle to return to upton !!!! it fished well with some nice Bream coming out . I can see why the bank clearing team may have not cleared as many pegs downstream as this fishery has ample good clear pegs already and they have to concentrate on other places which dont.
So id say do book the venue but maybe if there are older or more unstable members book the other field !! Its a great venue !! Or maybe book the whole stretch and have a new policy of letting other members who show up fish the pegs you arent using...i say this as i did turn up last year to find a contest on there only to be told to "bugger off" in a very non friendly manner even though i was already fishing when they arrived and whilst packing up my gear was told by another in their group that they expected 7 or 8 people to be coming....theres room for 30 id say at least....we need some more friendly banter between contest and non contest anglers we are all in the same Association after all.

Re: no pegs

The Fisheries team spend 3 days at Severn Stoke this year specifically clearing the max number of pegs for the match booked which is far more time than we usually spend at a fishery clearing pegs.

We strimmed, cut back trees and dug out pegs both up and downstream of the car park and specifically checked we had created sufficient required, we also cut back the grass across the car park so the max number of anglers could park.

A few pegs were left as due to erosion they had become un-fishable and we have to make a call as to where we best use our limited resource and time. So I do not agree with the statement of only 7 half decent pegs were available.

Re: no pegs

Agree the access is tricky at Severn Stoke, but hey it's a spate river, and I do think some of you are getting a bit soft, perhaps you are just too used to those commercials that you drive up to the peg and catch the same fish others caught the day before.
True I don't match fish, I never have, but there are enough safe pegs at Birds Meadow and Ripple, SS is a real gem of a 'real' bit of wild fishing that I enjoy, I have had Barbel to 14 lbs and have fished it when it has been bank high in the Winter, and still caught Barbel, I am no 'spring chicken', retired, but the day I need safe access and the car parked at my back is the day I give up this lark.
The BAA team have done a great job at the venues I fish, the club offers fantastic fishing for both the match and pleasure angler, even the 'specialist guy's too.
No need to complain at all IMO.
