Hello Fellow D’anglers
If like me any of you are wanting to replace a set of Rod Rings to bring an old rod back to life, as I have just done myself.
Or you may be keen to build yourself a complete Rod?

Then let me share with you the name and address of a Manufacturer/ Supplier that is based in Studley, whom I visited to purchase myself a set of Rod rings.
I discovered them on the Internet as Guides n Blanks (GnB)

The company is
Hopkins & Holloway Ltd
Brickyard Lane Industrial Estate,
Off Kiln Lane,
Studley
Warwickshire
B80 7EE

The telephone number for them is 01527 853822

I hope that this might be helpful to any other likeminded d’anglers out there on the BAA Forums

I'm currently building 4 trotting rods. 2 light, a medium and a heavy one. I've had all my stuff from them and also highly recommend them. Hopkins and holloway is the trade side of things, and guides n blanks ks is the public side of things. Same company just different prices I guess. If you want to learn a lot about fishing tackle, these guys will tell you everything you could ever want to know about rods, and you can pop 5 minutes down the road to see Gary mills who will tell you everything you would ever need to know about reels and much more. There's not much he doesn't know

Hi FC,
I read your post and I have put a couple of photos on my reply below.
However my Rod-ring replacement bears no comparison with your job of building four complete rods!

My first attempt at replacing any Rod-rings in all my years of fishing, might be a bit unsightly but it was for me a right of passage, as this was my Dad’s rod and he past away 26 years ago, and the Rod must be at least 55 years old!

So now in my eyes it is as good as when my Dad last used it, and I am looking forward to using it in the months and (fingers crossed) what years I have left in front of me.

Just to confirm what you have said about Hopkins & Holloway / Guides n Blanks what great service they provide, and they are Local in the Global sense that will allow both of us to…

The images you posted Reg, is that the finished whipping or work in progress? You are right regarding a right of passage, my Uncle taught me how to whip guides back in the 60s, and it has helped me out a number of times.
I always start at the ring ends of the guide and work down the blank, remembering to secure a loop to tuck the finished cotton through the final few whips.
Use only recommended dope to coat your work.

You can't beat the nostalgia of old tackle. Whilst I use the modern stuff most the time, every now and then I get a few old rods and reels out just to have a go. One of my favourites is my dad's old silstar match rod. Whilst the new stuff is undoubtedly lighter and arguably performs better, for me tye older traditional tackle looks a million times better.

Thanks for the post, I have a set of 13foot Edgar Sealey blue match specials from around 1975 which I love and are in need of new set of rings / eyes. I also have an old Slapton Steel Apollo 2 piece rod I have also used for ledgering which I want to rebuild.
I had given up on trying to find a supplier. But looking at the website they have the lot!
Brilliant find !

Hi Haddon,
Brilliant!
I am so pleased for you, I did say to John at Hopkins & Holloway that I would make there name known to the membership of the BAA, as they are a “LocalCompany” they might get a few customers.
