Had a trudge up and down Severn Stoke yesterday, carpark downstream one meadow and about one and half meadows upstream opposite the red cliffs. There were only really two fishable pegs and they would need a bit of digging on the day! I’m hoping that a work party will very soon get down there??? The BAA does represent good value for money in terms of the amount of water they control but what is the point of having all that water when a certain percentage is literally unfishable, I know the work parties are volunteers so fair play to them. If the price doubled or trebled and the amount of stretches was reduced it wouldn’t bother me as the extra money would finance the upkeep and access of the pegs etc I know there will be lads on here who like the wild river roaming but then there are others who I’d think would be the majority who desire better pegs regardless of the walk. To me it’s a waste of money keeping a stretch if the association can’t afford the upkeep, there must be loads that no one even bothers with.

Re: Severn Stoke pegs

Work party is planned for tomorrow.

Have a look under the booked waters and Fisheries work plan tab at top of this page.

I expect it'll be much better by wednesday.

Re: Severn Stoke pegs

Last knockings on Sunday my son got stuck into big barbel, I had to assist with the netting, but fell half way down a 20 ft drop in doing so. Slightly delayed reaction last night but was in agony, and combined with food poisining it was bad.
After rain these banks can be lethal, in which case a dog spike and rope is a help.
Good to see some work scheduled downstream is a mess

Its a thankless task trying to look after river stretches. I am a member of a small syndicate that has 3 meadows. The grass and weeds grow quicker than we can cut them, even worse in these wet conditions. Don't know how many miles of river we have in total but it would require 100 blokes working on a full time basis to keep every stretch accessible just in case someone MIGHT want to go a fish it. I think the volunteers who get out there and do what they can are doing an excellent job.

Well said moorey totally agree. We quite often go to the venues and cut pegs out ourselves in the close season.Shame more clubs/members don’t chip in more like they used to and take some of the load off the work party.
