With reference to the new rule whereby we can only fish Stacklands if a permit is obtained in advance.
Only ten permits a day are going to be issued.
This will never work unless all members are notified by post!
There will obviously be a large number of members who do not have access to the internet.
Even if all tackle shops are notified, I would bet that a large number of members will not know about this new rule.
Not a good thing if a member travels say 100 miles to find they cannot fish because they require a permit.
Of course this could still happen if they went there and found that all the pegs were taken.

Re: Stacklands!

Yes that was the concern with me too, it was wrong initially to think that everyone would be aware of the rule, I posted a link up on Facebook about the permit, the thought that anyone travelling a long distance only to be kicked off was not on. However the new rule is the bailiffs will not kick you off apparently, weekends might be a problem though when it does get busier.

The problem is again the farmer Mr Williams, and access, nice chap as he is he dislikes cars on his land, hence the permit. I had a long chat with him last Tuesday, and I do see his point of view, is track can get very boggy. He did also say he offered to 'make' a car park area by the gate to the track, but this was declined by BAA, this might have been a solution, although I still think some control on numbers is a must.

The permit can be emailed or mailed, I had mine emailed, but it was a quiet day in tough conditions apart from two other anglers on the stretch. I must say the BAA bailiifs do a great job down there in difficult circumstances, they really do everything to keep the peace,

WE DO NEED SOME CLARITY FROM BAA HQ ON THIS THOUGH!!

Re: Stacklands!

The policy on 10 tickets per day will really make it difficult for me to enjoy this excellent fishery as I quite often have to make last-minute decisions on sessions. Shame.

Re: Stacklands!

What would you rather have, no permit so when you get there you can't fish because there are no pegs or parking spaces?

Or a system that ensures you can fish and park?

As said it's easy to get a permit, just ring BAA HQ and they will email, or post the permit, that easy, you get the permit within minutes if emailed.

Re: Stacklands!

Seems like a good idea considering the distance most would travel and the circumstances of the fishery. I new nothing of this till this post so would be a good idea if this information can get passed on and accompany all new memberships. Could cause some problems on the bank if someone who didnt know is fishing without a permit and someone with one asks them to leave the peg.

Only problem I can see is people requesting permits every weekend and then just pleasing them selves if they go or not.

Re: Stacklands!

onelastcast,

What planet are you on?
When there are hundreds of members not on the internet, how on earth will they know they need a permit and how on earth will they be able to get an e-mail?
Even notices in tackle shops will not get everyone notified of the need for a permit.
I don't disagree, the permit idea is a sound one, as long as all members are notified!

Re: Stacklands!

What planet ? Earth, and I am on the interweb, anyone who is not must be at a huge disadvantage, however there is always snail mail to get the permits, but the Bailiifs did say NO ONE WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE WITHOUT A PERMIT!! Which is why I asked BAA HQ to clarify the situation.
But we do agree there seems to be a need to limit rods, especially at weekends.
The upstream fields are not at all easy to fish due to streamer weed, which makes feeder fishing difficult, the deeper stretch in the first field is fine, but of course there are limited pegs available.
No need to be rude btw, just trying to help!!

Re: Stacklands!

Again onelastcast you miss the point of the thread!
Even snail mail is no good UNLESS ALL MEMBERS KNOW ABOUT THE NEW RULE!
Your point about no member being asked to leave is not within the Stacklands notice.
If this is the case, it very much weakens the point of having the permit policy.

Re: Stacklands!

Your point is that those members that don't know anything about the rules, must be because they don't have access to the web, or no one in their family too, the same people who might drive '100' of miles to Stacklands, probably with Sat Nav, and have no computer...really?awkward

The solution would be that BAA write to every member...really? The complaint to BAA from many is that they need to modernise, and now they have to write to every member, how many members have BAA, and how much time and effort would that cost?

Sorry have to say if anyone is in the dark about the new rule, but have enough wit about them to actually find Stacklands, they should probably be turned away anyway tongue out

I can recommend a nice Day Ticket venue nearby though wink

Re: Stacklands!

No extra money would be spent if this new rule was sent out with the BAA cards in December and then every one would know all about it.
A few more months under the old system would have been required and a little note along with the new cards would have had it all sorted.
Putting it out only on the web site in mid-year has serious limitations.
Although ''onelastcast'' may be suprised, there are still thousands of people who are NOT COMPUTER SAVVY, but they still go fishing and suprise, suprise, may get to Stacklsands by using a good old fashioned MAP.
Even worse the Stackland announcement is NOT NOW ON THE HOME PAGE, so unless a member decides to view old information, even as a computer user, they would not see it.
It should at least be left as a ''STICKY'' on the Home page!
At least one forum user only picked up on the NEW RULE BY READING THIS POST.
That really proves my point, so I shall say no more about it!

Re: Stacklands!

Map is useless for Stacklands Tracker, unless you have a OS map, even then you have to gamble on finding the gate, just keep going downhill is the rule to find the fishery.

The situation at Stacklands changes on a daily basis I suspect, as said the Farmer and his access is the problem here, not BAA.

From what I understand the BAA brought the permit rule in to stop overcrowding in the car park, anyway there is only parking for about six vehicles, so it is a sensible situation to at least ensure members can at least park.

However your main concern is that in 2016 it would seem some members are still in 1948 as far as communication, despite BAA at last going, well 20th Century at least in an attempt to reach out to it's members, that is the way things are, if you don't like expect to pay the price, and expect many wasted journeys .

Remember there is always someone in the village or even family that has access to the Interweb thingy, so not really an excuse is it?

Managed to get a permit via email for Saturday so happy that it was relatively straightforward process.
