Help. The last few times that I have been out on the rivers I have been having a lot of problems with my hooklength twisting. Fishing the stick float with a single maggot and it still ravels up to nothing. Any idea how I can stop this please?

Hi ,what line are you using ? because some modern lines just don't like being used on running water. I get no problem with Drennan float.

Re: Twisted Hooklength on Rivers

I use a micro swivel above the hooklength - suggested by Dave Harrel and works a treat.

Re: Twisted Hooklength on Rivers

Hooklengths are generally between 6in and 12in....does this affect the twisting then? I have been using Preston PowerLine as I always used this on commercials....I am guessing that this isn't ideal. Is there a good low diameter hooklength to use with my Drennan Float Fish mainline? I had never thought about a swivel.....this does sound like a helpful ideal though, and Dave Harrell is the river king smiling

I usually fish with 6lb floatfish main and a 12" Drennan hooklink - I think 5.7lb (I am hoping for the odd barbel!).

6" and under I rarely get twisted line, it can depend on bait I have on the hook 2 worm being the worst, but yes a Micro swivel is also a good shout or even change your hook length fairly regular. I do think the Preston power line has a tendency to do this more than some other lines.
