Back to fishing after a 20 year break - What's the point of the latest EVA bait tubs?

I've recently come back to fishing after a 20 year break and there's a few tackle updates i'm confused about...
I have the old style square black plastic bait boxes ranging from 1 to 4 pints that conveniently stack inside each other and also have lids to stop spills etc.
I notice that the market now has many EVA products that appear to have seams, lips, don't stack and frequently without lids.
Sorry for the naïve question, but what's it all about and what's the advantage of this more expensive EVA type bait box over the old plastic ones that makes them worth paying extra?

A lot of them will keep baits cool.
If that's not an issue for you, then use what works for you, 'cause fishing ain't a fashion parade.

Many thanks for your reply.

Haha - I had never considered a bait tub as a fashion accessory!

Could you please help me understand how a similar tub, one made of plastic and one made of EVA changes the temperature of the bait?

I'd assume that both materials would work for anyone although the fact that EVA have seams, lips, non-stacking, usually without lids appear to be disadvantages.

You see, when materials change (such as rod/pole glass to carbon), and prices increased, I saw the obvious advantages... weight, stiffness, slim rod, power etc.

I'm not trying to be awkward or clever, I just don't understand how bait in an EVA tub stays cooler than in comparable plastic tub?

I've have a discarded EVA tub of a similar size to my plastic tubs. Could you please explain the scenario that would make the bait cooler in an EVA tub and I'll do a test with a thermometer!

Many thanks!

Just had a quick google,no mention of temperature control. Seems it's all about ease of use,you don't have to remove/replace a lid every time. There does, however, seem to be potential for spillage. Anglers, alas, are as vulnerable to fashion trends(got to look good on the bank)as your average spotty youth, bearded hipster etc

Hi Baldy - thanks for your reply.

I don't understand the 'ease of use' idea because you don't have to take the lid on and off all the time on the standard plastic ones - you can just leave the lid off. However, if you have the old plastic type with a lid, you at least have the option.

Or you could buy a bait brolly,to protect your bait from "the driving rain or beating Sun".

Hi Baldy. I agree with you but still not sure the relevance. I imagine that a brolly has a similar result whether the tubs are plastic or EVA! Still doesn't seem to justify the benefit of paying 3 times the price for an EVA tub without a lid.

Hi Mork,I suspect the EVA systems are all about ease of use on the bank, particularly in matches where speed and consistency are crucial. Flip one lid/cover to reveal your chosen variety of hookbaits, groundbait, loose feed etc. Prepared and loaded up at home. As for maggot spillage/escapees,bag them for transporting, tear open the bag on the bank. Not my style of fishing, so not for me,"old fashioned" tubs, lidded buckets and Tupperware style containers do the job just fine. But I can see the attraction of EVA systems, could be the end of baitbox juggling.

Hi Baldy. Thanks for your response.
I can see that you are now talking about EVA 'systems' instead of just EVA bait tubs.
Yes - i can imagine that having a large outer zip lidded container that contains a number of smaller containers, allows you to unzip just one lid without having to take all 4 lids off.
Not sure it saves anything if you have to take bait 'bagged up', tear, empty into tub, then when you go home you'd need to 're-bag'. Don't like the sweaty maggots!
You'd also have to accept the inflexible layout of the bag and close proximity mixing between tubs.
I did actually ask someone that was using one on a commercial last week. It started raining, so he pulled up his hood on the tray and the EVA lid got in the way and he couldn't fold it under the boxes. He ended up turning the EVA system so that the lid was point towards him and it touched his leg.
I asked about the spillage, and he said that He only uses it on commercials when he 'wheels' his kit a short distance. He wouldn't consider using it with live bait or if he had to 'carry' his kit.
I don't think i'll be buying an EVA bait tub 'system'!

Mork, you're right!!! I said EVA systems, apologies,I had been reading about them and got swept along by the terminology. It won't happen again. Only seven and a bit weeks until the rivers open and I won't have time to google stuff that is of no interest to me.

I made a serious error calculating time to the rivers opening again. It is still 7 weeks and 6 days from today!!!! That is so depressing.
