Can anyone tell me if the Severn or Avon floods into any of the pools and what happens to the fish stocks?

They stay put largely. When the Severn flooded last year into Larford Lakes, he lost a few fish, but hardly dented his stock level, despite the owner whining about it at the time.

That's my opinion anyway. Might be different for a small garden pool that gets totally washed out, but for a lake, I'd say the fish stay in the environment they're used to.

Re: Winter flooding and its effects on pools

If memory serves me correct , Back in July 2012 the river Severn was in flood and it to the fields.
When the river levels dropped . In and around Upton on Severn bream and carp were left stranded in the fields. The EA got involved returning fish back in to the river. The EA posted pictures of carp weighing over 30 lb they were returning to river.

So I can only imagine that those carp must have originally escaped from lakes from previous times when the Severn was in flood ?
Mythe pool runs alongside the Severn . So when the Severn floods in to the fields how many fish from Mythe escaped in to the river over the years . I know over the years some big carp have been caught from the Severn ?

I was hopeful a few would find a way into our pools ;)

The zander that are, or were, in Uckinghall were from the Severn. The carp in the Severn and Avon have been there for years, and I doubt whether they are escapees from places like Uckinghall/Mythe etc. Pretty much all river contain carp, the LS more so than most rivers.

Having said that, a mate caught an F1 from a stretch of Lower Severn i fish last summer, a good one too. That can only have come from a commercial fishery.

Best I google ‘F1’and find out what one looks like...just in case I get lucky!!

Uckinghall bank was raised a few years ago, presumably to keep the fish in,

Carp are not native to this country ? They were first introduced to this country from Europe for food in the middles ages .If memory serves me correct it was monks who first kept them in stock ponds.

So if you go back far enough in history carp have either escaped in to our river systems due to flooding or were released in to the rivers by man .

The Thames as well as the Severn is well known for carp as well as our canals. Also Zander are not native to this country. They are from Eastern Europe .

One last point I think you will find the reason why the bank was raised at Uckinghall was to stop the flooding .

Just a few years ago, after a flood, our club match at Grimley was won with 35lb of stockie carp in the 2 to 4 lb bracket, other similar carp were caught in other pegs on that day. The pools on the Wharf pub at Holt Fleet gets flooded loads of times so it's possible they escaped from there. We've fished lots of matches on there since but not caught any carp.

Hi Stewpar
Yes you are correct there were Carp in the Salwarpe!
some years ago early in the Season myself and my brother in law were there bright and early one Sunday Morning and we could not believe our ears and then our eyes as we heard then saw a very large Common Carp slurping in some bread right next to the bank, it was well into double figures.
It would be nice if they are still there to be caught?

Keep on Fishing

Somebody told me that when the Severn flooded summertime, the carp were swimming round the field at claines, think it was 2007 though in the big floods, guess there's still some there.
