Re: Zander

Zander are in all canals, you do not divulge where the Zander are due to the C&RT employing MEM to electrofish the stretches and kill the Zander and also cause problems for other fish, they electrofish when perch are spawning, so do not under any circumstances tell people where you are catching Zander from unless you want to ruin your canal fishing.

Re: Zander

Do you think CRT would target an area where someone had caught Zander.so to cull them? As you say Zander are present throughout the canal system, I think they would take a more methodical approach.

Personally I find the culling of Zander to be just plain wrong, they have become an established species and deserve to be left alone, they offer great sport for many, but of course the focus for CRT is very much Shad etc and using lottery funding on that worthless cause..

They employ students to do fish surveys in streams publish the damning results that the stream is polluted and do do diddly squat...nice work if you can get it.

The Shad thing cost millions, they set up a monitoring station at Tewkesbury weir, complete with expensive cameras, of course they were nicked, Oh! well was the reply we expected that.

Then the Diglis viewing exercise in wasting money, brilliant.

They don't seem to be interested in coarse fish, barbel chub perch, but a good Shad is what they want.

Re: Zander

It is in their interest, they are selling the Zander on so they are in the food chain, this is how they make their money on top of the £800 they get paid to electrofish the canals, they being MEM.

That's poor and smacks of corruption. I know restaraunts offer good money for zander, but a Midlands canal is not the sort of place I would want my fish supper raised in.

I was shocked when I found out, it’s on various groups on Facebook, they even sell the Zander to Billingsgate for theLondon restaurants.

Re: Zander

Sadly they do zap stretches when people have reported good catches. There was incident a few years back where a stretched was zapped the day before an international lure comp. That tells you all you need to know about the companies involved.
