Hi all
Just thinking about coming back to fishing after a long time out. Everything seems to have cchanged so much what with pellets, carp and commercials. Are there still clubs around that fish matches on rivers?

I can see that there are some match results on here but just wondering if anyone knows of any clubs that do focus on the rivers

Hi Parris,
Although the BAA provide lists of the waters booked for contests for the month / Weeks ahead it would be good if the names of the Clubs could also be provided, it might help them to increase their own memberships?

What do other members think?

Cheers Reg

I can see that there is another question about this on the forum as well. When you are trying to get back into this its so much easier just to rock up to a commercial and fish with people there. A few years ago there were so many clubs that were fishing the Avon and Severn in particular. It just seems to be finding them that is the difficult part.

It does make me think as well that the age profile of BAA members in itself might be "interesting". If I was a kid I would probably be trying to catch a shedload from a puddle..............

Hi Parris,
Yes Puddle fishing, as opposed to “wild water fishing” = Rivers and Canals!

To this end I highlighted the great work that the Fisheries Team have just carried out on making the Nordley Pools more accessible for our membership.

I know that the Committee are due to meet this week let us hope that the point that you and Mork have raised about Affiliated Clubs and Club Names being given when waters are booked for contests gets discussed and actioned positively.

Our small club fish rivers, the old school way of a canal and a pool in the close season and the rest rivers, mainly BAA with a couple of others thrown in for a change of scenery.
The club is called the Bell Otters

Hi Rick
I know from my contact with BAA admin that there is no requirement to provide your contest results to the BAA, however I would welcome the results being posted in the Match Fishing Forum as I think it of essential value to the BAA and to us members.

1) It is a barometer of how good or poor the fishery might be?
Refer to the post on the Forum from Frank Bagley of Girling AC and his concerns for the Avon at Fladbury!

2) It might encourage our members to give it a go, if it fishes well

Looking forward to seeing your Club Contest results Rick.
