Such a shame that with so many contests held on BAA Waters there is very little feedback?

I have however discovered that some Contest Results from BAA Waters do get reported on by Steve Cope and can be found on the Canal & River Trust Website.

Steve compiles a very comprehensive list of Fishing Contest Results from across all types of Waters.

Last week included results from our Botterham Locks water on the S-W, and Stoke Wharf on the B-W Canals!

Quite a difference in the catches and weights.

Keep on Fishing….

Re: Contest Results from BAA Waters

Hi Reg

I've added Steve Cope's link to my Favourites Bar, thanks. It makes sense now of some my own recent experiences.

Last weeks Botterham SW result is most enlightening. The day before the match I had a 10lb bag of Bream, Perch and the inevitable Eel from that same section, and yet the day after I really struggled to have any more than a pound of bits from the Ashwood section where I would expect a 4lb to 5lb bag of fish even on a bad day.

Steve Cope's Botterham match report for that Sunday, May 14th, shows that while I was struggling for bites at Ashwood, the fishing was equally as bad at Botterham with less than 2lb winning the match. What a difference between my own good fishing experience on Saturday and the match result on Sunday on the same section. The Sunday before (May 7th) it only took half a dozen Bream to make up the 16lb 8oz bag that won the match that BIN's club fished there but yet again, many struggled for bites on that day too and there was little boat traffic about to explain the long spells between bites.

Regarding last Sunday's poor results I put it down to the sudden overnight rise in SW water temp. By Sunday it was 1.5*C higher than it was on Saturday and the fish may well have become more interested in breeding than feeding.

Thankfully when I fished Ashwood again yesterday, the water temp had dropped a bit and the fish were back on the feed and I had my hoped for 6lb bag of skimmers, perch, roach, gudgeon and the inevitable Eel.

Its good to get some feed back so thanks again Reg for the hint on where to find some BAA match results. Nice onesmiling

That's a great analysis Stew and a reason why no 2 days are the same in fishing. Also reminded me that a I need to replace the old mercury thermometer that I smashed last year.

Re: Contest Results from BAA Waters

Hi again

I've noticed that Perch seem to be the species most affected by these sudden rises in water temp. Very few big perch showing in recent weeks though wtr temps have dropped down now from @17*C last Sunday to 15.3*C on the SW and a couple of BIG perch showed up for me at Wolverley yesterday, plus yet another inevitable Eel.

Going back to last Sunday 14th BAA section match results, the open match at Stoke Prior didn't fish to expectations either. There were some International Anglers amongst the 34 who fished it but less than 14lb won it. It might be that only half a dozen Bream were in the winning bag and bites were hard to come by there too. The bigger Bream seem to love the latest temp rises along with the inevitable Eels

Keep fishingsmiling

Re: Contest Results from BAA Waters - New Season 2023 - 2024

Hello Fellow D’anglers,

I looked at the Waters Booked for Contests on this the first weekend of the 2023-2024
River Season on June 17 -18 2023

There were 12 Contests booked across 9 Waters on the Saturday and Sunday on the Avon and on the Severn.

How did the waters fish, being as we have had such a prolonged dry spell, and a pollution incident on the Upper Avon?

Any feedback would be most helpful and gratefully received

Keep on Fishing…
