Good luck this weekend

To all you match men, I hope you all have a peg this weekend. Even booking 3 meadows on a popular stretch does not guarantee more than 10 pegs anymore, as Girling a/c discovered last week. I see that Wick is booked this weekend, and a fellow member asked days ago, if the ditch bridge is now safe, and at this time of writing, he has had no reply, so to the club fishing there this weekend, I wish you even more luck with that one. There are BAA officials who know, if not they should know if there are not enough pegs, or even if we can get to the river, but they seem rather shy in telling the clubs involved. It seems that they would rather have the highlight of the week ruined for these members. I just don't understand it.

Re: Good luck this weekend

We always get someone to pop down to any river venue we have booked a week or two before to check how many pegs are there and how many might need 5 minutes with a machete. It’s never been an issue for our clubs. Also why would the BAA want to purposely ruin a clubs weekend?Come on you can’t seriously believe that?

Thank you for your reply Bailiff Stew, I must admit that it is not unreasonable to arrive at the river with a machete and a possible makeshift Bailey bridge, if pre warned. Your defense of the indefensible is admirable, you are a credit to the BAA.

Re: Good luck this weekend

There is two really simple solutions though mate, with regards to the bridge why not ring the office and ask John?Would take a 30 second phone call where you could also ask about what pegs are available and when it was last strimmed.Or even better get someone to pop down and count the pegs a week or two before,as I said that’s what we do and have never turned up to a venue and not been able to run the match due to lack of pegs. This is sometimes with 20+ on a match on the Avon and the Severn.

Re: Good luck this weekend

Bailiff Stew, I have the solution to all our problems, there is no need for the Gov'nor to get contractors in, because we allow you and your 20 other mates to clear for a match, an us other clubs follow on, and you, being a Bailiff will know the best venues. Life can be so easy, when thought is put into it. Thanks mate, owe you a pint.

Re: Good luck this weekend

No need for the sarcasm is there really?I’m simply telling you what our clubs have done in the past to solve the problems of turning up for a match and there not being enough pegs. Were you on that Girling match mentioned previously?

You are not daft, are you Stew, but it's not good enough. I have vented my anger, and I am done now. Regards.

Re: Good luck this weekend

Sorry but I’m just baffled why any match secretary would book a match completely blind without firstly having a look at the venue before booking to see if it’s suitable or at least a week or two before to check it’s still suitable or needs any work to tidy some pegs up.Failing that check the fisheries work schedule on here or give the office a ring. There are plenty of options that could of made this situation avoidable.

Stew for just once hold your hands up and admit there is a problem. As I have said dont attack feedback, good or bad. You could have pointed out that contractors are being sought to alleviate the problem, even directed him to the Secretaries request statement for help with contractors. Obviously the BAA have identified there is a problem, so get with the plan Stew.

Re: Good luck this weekend

considering that most clubs struggle to get 12-15 anglers out for a match, it's pathetic that you can't find that many pegs on any given stretch of water. On a different subject I contacted head office 3 weeks ago about volunteering for some bailiff duties, as of today I have not received a reply it just seems the clubs not listening to members.

Shut up Neil you pathetic little runt,do everyone a favour and F off this forum for good, you would never normally comment on a match fishing thread you’ve just jumped on this because you’ve seen that I’ve commented on it.I have answered the problem with 4 different solutions that would of prevented it,what more do you want me to do?
The news that the BAA are getting contractors in is surely common knowledge now?Why do I have to keep repeating it?

Exactly the response I expected Stew, its all right though, it just reinforces the problems you have with dealing with members concerns. I am pretty much thick skinned now with all this abuse, at least there is something positive ,maybe, to come out of this.
As I said the club are aware of the problems in maintaining so much water, why not address members concerns with an acceptance of that, and stop taking it as a personal pop at you?
I appreciate you care about the club as much as anyone, but your attitude I am afraid leaves a lot to be desired.
Calm down.

I would love to join you, I have strimmers saws etc, but your kind request by calling me Nause is hardly genuine is it? More an invite for something else? Besides read what the sec. says about insurance etc?
Sorry if I have touched a nerve Stew, but you really need to calm down.
