Had an enjoyable session on 'the loop' at Poolquay yesterday, guided by Mike and Anne Wood - helpful as ever. My first trip fishing here and Mike gave me the tour with tips on where to fish.

It was bit hot and sunny but after roving about I managed to find a couple of pockets of grayling and had 8 beautiful fish up to a pound on light nymphing gear and 3lb tippet. Red tag and gold head hares ear were the only flies needed. Great fun and only cows for company.

Also tried for barbel for the last 3 hours but no fish - could do with more water to bring them on the feed probably, but did look good, with some nice deep pools and fast flowing bits. Will be back when we have had some rain. Would love to try for salmon here as well.
Well done Mike and Anne - always there to help.

Re: Poolquay grayling

Hello Glen,
Nice to know that you caught some Grayling.

I fished there a couple of weeks ago and had the pleasure of meeting Ann and Mike, and what they do not know about the Upper Severn, is simply not worth knowing!

As you said the rivers need a good flush through and the water levels to get back to normal.

In my conversation with Mike he knows this river better than anyone so hopefully you have his details to get the latest info off him of when to visit, especially forte Salmon Run!

Keep on Fishing
