Re: Old Blokes falling Over

Hi Mick

I know what you mean!
Watch out for the platforms in wet/muddy conditions. They can be treacherous, as can some of the banks.
Not too sure about footwear, and can only suggest somethings with studs like football boots.
Personally, if a peg looks too risky safety-wise, I move on to a safer looking one.

Re: My biggest chub

Hi Roger
I cannot recollect posting about 6-8 gramme Avons at Nafford, nor did I receive an email from you.I certainly would have replied to it. In my opinion a 6-8 gramme one would be far too heavy for Nafford, as it's fairly slow moving. 3-4 is ideal. Generally crowquill Avons equate to about 3BB per gramme, so a 6-8 gramme would be somewhere around 18-24BB. Rather a lot!
Not sure how to go about getting email addresses from this forum, but if you care to send me your address I will send you a couple of my homemade crowquill Avons. My email is pp9948@gmail.com.
Regarding your question on the Avons you are making, I cannot really say, as my experience is only with genuine crowquill Avons, rather than bolo type floats.
Good luck with your float making and feel free to ask me any questions.

Re: My biggest chub

Hi Stew
I should have stated in my first mail that I weighed it at 6lb dead, including the weighing net, so probably about 5lb 12ozs.
The length I would estimate at about 24inches or so
Regards hooking maggots onto hooks, I always gently squeeze the pointy end so that the blunt end
pops out a bit into which I hook into. It's always worked for me! I never use barbed hooks.

Re: My biggest chub

Hornyoldtoad, you are right. One of my homemade floats.
Are you the fellow that I gave one to at Pensham a few weeks back?
I've still got lots more to give away!
