Re: arley first time

Well done on that. I've been struggling recently - any advice on tactics or baits?

Mystery fish

Fished Stacklands today and had a pretty successful visit - whilst sat on one of the concrete plinths, what appeared to be a fairly large salmon (definitely well into double figures) decided to cruise alongside me. What made it weird was that body appeared to be completely covered in lightish patches, almost like camouflage, Can anyone shed any light on this?

Re: no barbel or pike in keepnets

For starters I think a keep net ban on barbel and pike (excluding matches) would be reasonable.
I quite often unhook fish in my landing net without any problems so for me that would be a little heavy-handed.

Autumn struggle

Reading the angling press one might think river fishing has been at its best this autumn. I would beg to differ - virtually every fishing trip I have ventured on over the last three months has presented me with gin clear water and levels that are as low as I can remember. To add to that the sun always seen to shine too! Yes, I have caught some nice fish, but I certainly haven't been presented with the "bonanza" that the press appears to think is out there. Small hooks and baits have given me some nice fish but I do long for some rain and the chance to use some more traditional rigs and baits. Has anyone else out there similar experiences or is it just my imagination?
Oh and just a small request - could someone at BAA please look into improving the access to the 3rd meadow at Stacklands- sooner or later someone is going to injure themselves badly on that lethal rusty gate.
