Re: Droitwich Spa AC contest at Hinksford on Sunday 24th March 2024

Hi Swainy

A match report is a match report whether it is the outcome of a good or disappointing day's fishing. The fact that all contestants on that day and time of day had relatively disappointing results from a normally prolific venue proves that it just wasn't gonna happen while you were there.
We think that we know a lot about fishing, but a double figure net one afternoon can turn into a dry net on the same peg during the following morning, and vice versa.
Thanks for your post.

Re: To celebrate the 1st anniversary of BAA Forum D'Angling

Hi Keith (Raver)
The tow path is more entertaining than the pub at Wolverley.
On that sunny but cold day back in February I hadn't been fishing for more than 1/2hr when a bloke I used to drink with in Kiddy back in the '70s came ambling by. We chatted for a good 1/2hr.
Then Tim the local BAA Bailiff turned up. I last saw him back in 2021 when we were both fishing at Nordley. That was another 1/2hr of chatter.
Then another angler daft enough to fish on such a cold day after a frost told me that he was packing up. He'd waited 2.1/2hrs for his only bite from a small perch on a pinky. Well at that stage, that beat me!!
Then a lad I used to see regularly last winter on Saturday afternoons turned up. He stayed with me for a while talking about his fishing trips on the commercials (he doesn't do the canals) but then showed me a photograph of a 17lb pike that he'd caught in Stourport Marina while Jig Fishing for Perch on 6lb line (NO TRACE!!!). You think that I'm lucky?? Well done that man. That was another 3/4hr of chatting.
Then, not long after that I had my one and only bite from that lovely 3lb 11oz Chub.
The pub was very, very boring after such a gregarious and eventful afternoon on the Tow Path/Local Footpath at Wolverley

KOF, its good for your social life.
ps. My Broadband has been down for a few days so sorry that this catch up is late.

Re: To celebrate the 1st anniversary of BAA Forum D'Angling

Hi Raver

I always target Perch and whatever else fancies a couple of red maggots on the Staffy.
No Chub this time, which was only my 2nd visit to this section this year, but on my 1st visit about a month ago on a weekend when we had frosts on both Friday & Saturday night, I fished on Saturday after the first frost. After 5hrs without a bite since a midday start I was convinced that I was going to blank and started packing some of my gubbins away, eg: Vaccuum Flask etc. It was starting to get dark but I decided to have one last cast, laying on over loose feed I'd put in earlier in the boat swim, a line that I'd neglected for an hour while trotting without result for roach along the near margin during "Wiching Hour". Sure enough I finally did have a bite at 5.15pm and I struck into an elastic stretching 3lb 11oz Chub. My first words to myself when I struck into it were "I don't believe it, you jaxxie bar steward Stew", which I certainly am.smiling

To celebrate the 1st anniversary of BAA Forum D'Angling

Its been a whole year, all but a day, since Carlinford59 got a bunch of BAA forum chat mates together to meet up face to face for the first time.
On the 25th March 2023 we met for the first time on the Lock Inn car park, Wolverley, to pit our wits against not only the fish but also a never ending flotilla of boats. We didn't do very well, my mere 3.1/2lb made up of 4 Perch was enough to win the match, and I came nowhere near winning another one when the BAA Forum D'Anglers AC was formed a few months later.
Never mind, I enjoy my Lone D'Angling too and had a session at Wolverley again today to celebrate that day last year when most of us met for the first time, there have been a few additions since, who's company is equally appreciated.
Carlingford59 (Keith) said "keep posting the pictures" to me when we parted company that day, so just for him, I'm posting today's anniversary catch from the same venue. Nothing special, just a handful of perch again.
Thanks again Keith for making the BAA Forum D'Anglers AC a realitysmiling

Re: Cradley Heath Labour AC club match result. Staffs / Worcs canal at Stewponey. 17/03/24

Nice to see that such decent sized bags of mixed fish were caught from a venue that seems to be neglected other than by the regular Pike Anglers who fish the basin. I met a bloke there who'd driven all the way down from Blackpool a few weeks ago.
Roach showed up then. Jolly good. Must give it a bash myself one weekend.
If anyone else is thinking about fishing there on a weekend, its easier to find a parking space in the lay-by after midday when the ramblers & cyclists have had there morning exercise and heading home for lunch, or to the pub for a pint of course.
Cheers Olliesmiling
