Re: Politics

Hey, ho.Once again my feeble atempt at humour / irony falls flat.
Neil, you really do need to lighten up mate. Give yourself a treat and drop the Victor Meldrew impersonation once in a while. I know you've got it in you.
Cheers

Politics

Hi boys and girls. Please stick to criticising the BAA on this forum and out of politics. There are plenty of platforms which would welcome your comments on Boris, lock down parties et al, but not this one.
Cheers

Re: Prompt service from the BAA

Onelastcast,
I was recently speaking to former BAA Executive member Steve Whitton (Droitwich Angling Centre) regarding the installation of an otter proof fence around a new carp lake which he has constructed, and whilst I would not dream of revealing how much it cost him, it frightened me to death.
The engineering involved to do a proper job is very extensive, including installing concrete underneath the fence to prevent the little blighters from excavating under it. Self closing gates with electric locks, the full monty. And this was on a flat level piece of open ground.
To do something similar around Coppice Lake would involve the removal of all or most of the trees and extensive excavation to avoid undermining the dam, which would probably have to be reinforced. I fear that even if it was practical, the cost would run to many tens of thousands of pounds just for that one lake alone.
I would never rule anything out, but even BAA's pockets have a limit

Re: Prompt service from the BAA

Onelastcast, I am pleased that you have taken time to scrutinise the BAA acounts, however sometimes the figures do not give the full picture.
The amount shown in the accounts is the gross cost of postage. Don 't forget, whilst yes you can apply on-line for membership, it still has to be posted out to you and many members also purchase a guide book which costs more to post than it does to produce!
We also get back £1.50 p&p every time somepone buys a guide on-line, so in reality that income should be "netted" off the postage costs shown in the accounts. If this were to be done then our postage costs would be more than halved.
The cost of postage is very significant and we endevour to kept it to a minimum, however compared to the cost of installing otter proof fencingf it is a mere spit in the ocean.

Please note that these are of course not set in stone, and should we have urgent or emergency works or extreme weather conditions then days will be re arranged. I’ll update you with as much notice as possible of any changes as and when they may occur.

Monday 29th November – Trent & Mersey canal from Fradley to Burton
Monday 6th December – Coventry canal from Fradley to Huddlesford
Monday 13th December – Worcester & Birmingham canal from Worcester to Offerton
Tuesday 14th December – Worcester & Birmingham canal from Offerton to Hanbury
Wednesday 15th December – Worcester & Birmingham canal from Hanbury to Astwood
Thursday 16th December – Worcester & Birmingham canal from Astwood to Stoke Pound
Friday 17th December – Worcester & Birmingham canal from Tardebigge to Kingsnorton

We will be electro fishing some waters more than once over the course of the winter. Once I have dates and locations for the New year, I’ll contact you again to let you know of any on your clubs waters.

Kind regards
