Poolquay grayling

Had an enjoyable session on 'the loop' at Poolquay yesterday, guided by Mike and Anne Wood - helpful as ever. My first trip fishing here and Mike gave me the tour with tips on where to fish.

It was bit hot and sunny but after roving about I managed to find a couple of pockets of grayling and had 8 beautiful fish up to a pound on light nymphing gear and 3lb tippet. Red tag and gold head hares ear were the only flies needed. Great fun and only cows for company.

Also tried for barbel for the last 3 hours but no fish - could do with more water to bring them on the feed probably, but did look good, with some nice deep pools and fast flowing bits. Will be back when we have had some rain. Would love to try for salmon here as well.
Well done Mike and Anne - always there to help.

Re: Retreat Farm - masses of tiny carp

Doesn't seem impossible but will need some impetus from the BAA to make it happen:http://www.gov.uk/guidance/permission-to-move-live-fish-to-or-from-...
Looks like they would need a sample to have a 'fish health check' first and a 'site permit'.

I reckon it would be pretty feasible to net around 500 carp from there at the moment. Every time you dropped a bit of bread in there were at least 50 of them on it in seconds.

But still waiting for a response to my last post on here - so not holding my breath.

Retreat Farm - masses of tiny carp

Fished at retreat farm on Sunday for a few hours but the lake is full of tiny commons and mirrors about 2in long. Absolutely hoards of them attacking any bait and eventually consuming everything like tiny piranhas. This seems great news, as they'll be plenty of stock in there for years to come, but I have never seen so many carp of that size in any lake before. So I wonder if it is a good thing. I can't see how that lake can support that volume of fish once they grow a bit bigger and it will make fishing for the bigger fish even more of a nightmare next year when they are say half a pound to a pound. I guess the predators will take their toll but surely it shouldn't be left like it is.
So, I whilst I know the EA have all kinds of rules about transferring fish between lakes, is it worth getting a permit or whatever from the EA to net some of them out to stock other BAA pools in desperate need of more fish, like Uckinghall for instance?
Maybe it isn't that simple - I'm sure someone will know the rules and if this is possible, but it would seem that transferring fish might solve a couple of problems at minimal cost, as I'm sure buying carp isn't cheap.

Re: Doddenham BAA fishing confusion

No reply yet - would be nice to just get a view from the bailiff that covers this stretch please - even nobody is going to take the sign down - at least I know I'm within my rights to fish there. Nothing posted on FB as far as I can see.

Re: Gate Lock Missing - Eardiston R Teme

I fished there Saturday evening from about 6pm and noticed the padlock was missing - I was the only one there though. Maybe if the locals know the standard combination (as printed on our membership cards) we need a new lock with a different combination - not sure how we communicate that though - except perhaps having to email John at HQ to get the new combination after him checking we are actually members.
I had a pleasant few hours fly fishing with nymphs catching about 8-10 small grayling - no brownies though.
