Re: When We Fish Again

Done mine - only takes a few minutes - just follow the instructions - finds your local MP based on your postcode, finds the email address and basically automates the whole process.
Get behind this guys, as it could make the difference to get us back on the banks soon.

the perfect form of self isolation?

So I guess many of us are wondering how life goes on with the Corona virus and more importantly how it might affect our fishing!
I found this article online - from the US - so bear that in mind:http://thefederalist.com/2020/03/18/this-is-the-perfect-time-to-get...
I'm obviously not advocating killing your catch to feed yourself - unless perhaps if going sea fishing and within catch limits etc - but support the idea that getting out into the country is a good thing to do during these strange times. And obviously you would be silly to go out if feeling unwell, but when you get better or even before you catch it - it surely can't be a bad thing to get out of the house and away from others.
I just hope we don't get to the stage of full lockdown like in Italy, where you need a permit to leave your house. But can't see how the police could effectively control that anyway.
As long as you keep your distance from others surely fishing is the best form of self isolation?

Re: Retreat Farm Access

No worries. Keep us posted. I guess if it's all hands on deck we'll come down with landing nets and waders and help by scooping a few fish up.
As I say, may not be an issue if the water is cold - they might stay in the bottom of the lake.

Re: Retreat Farm Access

Just been down to have a look from the Worcester side of the river. The water is up to the first BAA gate as you come off the lane. Difficult to see the pools but looks like the whole area is now under water.
Not good I'd imagine.

Uckinghall - where have all the Zeds gone?

I have fished Uckinghall pretty regularly this winter for zander but have not had a single fish yet. All I have had is pike up to 9 lbs.
I was wondering if anyone has had any at all this winter from this pool?

It then got me thinking about the age of the doubles that came in during the summer of 2007. If they were say 4 years old in 2007 that means they would now be about 17 years old. And how old do zander last - typically a max of 16 years apparently. So maybe the big ones have all died of old age. I don't expect the match anglers to shed a tear but lots of predator anglers fish this pool in the hope of zeds - maybe they simply aren't there anymore.
There are younger ones in there of course - I've caught them from about 1 lb up to 4 lb mark, which must be from the older doubles spawning. But maybe with the recent frequent floods these have moved into the adjoining new gravel pit? Either that or I'm losing my touch.
