Access Pensham.

We went and had an enjoyable day at Pensham this week.
Nice weather although a bit windy.
Mixed bags of fish with perch to 1lb 8oz and roach to about 12oz all on maggot.
The only downside to the day was having to hump the tackle and trolley over the style, which did my dodgy back and hips no good at all.
It would improve the access for us not too fit old guys if the BAA were able to get the farmer to let them put one of our combination locks on the gate, which is right next to the style.
An easy fix to a frustrating problem, if the farmer will allow it.
This would give an easy access to all of the top meadows.
Downstream is a different story but we can't have everything, can we?

Re: Footbridges

To say carrying a lot of tackle is for an anglers ''image'' is a load of crap and as I said before ''weird''
Now, if an angler laid all his/her tackle out on the bank with all the price labels attached, that certainly would be for their ''image'', but that is something I have never seen in all my years of ''maggot-dangling''.
When I pass an angler on the bank, unless they told me, I would not know if they paid £1.00 or £1000 for a piece of gear and frankly, I don't care anyway.
It's their money and their choice!
I am on the wrong side of 75 with two painful hips and and a ''dodgy'' back.
The electric trolley I bought some years ago, has extended my river fishing by all of those years.
It is an absolute boon to us ''old codgers'' if we have easy access at any venue and not have to risk life and limb to get a days fishing.
Slippy, narrow footbridges are a recipe for disaster for the older members and making things easier for them insures that they stay members for longer.
Make life tough for them and as hundreds have already done, they drift towards fishing the commercials and the BAA membership goes in the wrong direction.

Re: Footbridges

I agree most of us could take less tackle, but we don't.
Easy for barbel anglers, not so easy for match anglers.
However, why anyone would conclude carrying a lot of tackle is for ''image'' is just weird!

Footbridges

Years ago when we all used to carry very little gear, a one or two plank footbridge across a ditch or stream was the norm.
The older anglers at the time probably found them a challenge, we young ones did not!
How things have changed!
Today with all the gear we carry, a trolley seems to be a ''must have'' for a lot of anglers..
When, as I am, you get into the higher age bracket, it is no fun to reach a footbridge and have to unload the trolley and carry everything across.
I would love to see wherever possible, footbridges wide enough to pull any trolley across, without the need to unload it.
A bonus would be raised edges so that a trolley wheel cannot slip over the edge.
Just my thoughts on an ideal footbridge!
