BAA home page today 30th. Report of dead fish at Coppice

I don't want to make light of what could a serious matter but I think they are all dead. Six visits this year, and just one tiny perch, and I mean tiny, about 2'' and that looked a bit pale, otherwise literally not even a bite.

Watching and talking to others I'm not the only one, I know a few carp have come out but I have fished this lake a lot and this winter it is dead to the point of being wierd. Even when it has been part frozen over you could manage a few skimmers or roach, but not this year. To be fair I have done the canals half a dozen times with the same result but Coppice would always produce in the past, you could guarantee it in winter. By contrast, another pool I fish is producing, and fish are topping and rolling, it is after all nearly April.

Something is upsetting them, they can't all be on a diet....Frustrating.

Re: Coppice

A bit late for you GUR but as general comment I don't find it's fishing at all. 4 trips [maybe 5] in the last 6 weeks or so and literally not a fish. Spoke to other chaps and nowt seems par for the course at the moment though I have seen a couple of carp come out. Coppice is pretty local for me so I have spent many days there over the last 5 years or so and know the lake and this winter has been rubbish.

Mainly I have been light float fishing but 2 or 3 times also had a carp rod out. Can't put my finger on it but something has changed there, even when most of it has been frozen over you could guarantee some fish in past years. Shall give it a miss for while, not least of all because those bloody geese keep squawking and flapping all day. A bit off canal fishing due I think.

PS I lied, just remembered I had one small perch, so small I didn't know it was on till I reeled in.

Re: river level

For future reference look at farsonsdigitalwatercams.com on the internet. It has several cameras along the Avon and some on the Severn. Living near Bidford I use the Bidford on Avon cam to see what conditions are like, saves a wasted trip. I did go to Marlcliffe to have a look on Sunday as the river had gone down, hoping to fish Monday before end of season, it was just back below the banks but still running very fast and muddy so gave it a miss. Hope this is useful.
