Re: BAA SELLING A FISHERY!

Not that it is that important to me personally but it seems a bit odd the BAA has had a fishery, now up for sale, that is not shown in their list of available waters. Confused.?

Re: Junior Angling.

Think you are right there Bob, rarely do you see youngsters on a river or canal, certainly in my area. Transport could be a problem for them, and you don't see many dads and lads out. Not knocking carp fishing, I have done a lot of it and still do some, but you have to say it can be like watching paint dry and there is comparatively little skill to it, I now always have one float rod out if fishing two rods to keep me awake, and give me a river or canal any day.

Commercials are great if you have had a few duff days on the river and just want to catch some fish, but each to there own as they say, do what you enjoy doing. Commercials are very predictable.

The nice thing about the river is you never know what you might catch next, and the biggest fish are not always the fish of a lifetime. I think kids would prefer this, we all know they get bored in about ten seconds and fishing a float they are at least doing something all the time, problem is getting them there.

Interesting camera angle, quite like that.

Re damaged mouths comments

I cannot see how a barbless hook can cause more damage than a barbed hook, if a barbless is not set firmly and slips out, it will surely just slip out. If a barbed hook comes out it is logic that the barb may catch and tear the fish in some way.

Lead / weights, is it really neccesary to have 4oz [ quarter of a pound ] of lead on a rig to hook the fish. What happened to fishing ? having a fish yank a 1/4 pound chunk of lead to hook itself while sitting in your bivvy nowhere near your rod 'aint fishing, this can't be good for the fish. One more gripe, watching various videos, there seems to be a trend towards holding the rod very low and applying lots of side strain when playing a fish, this can only pull the line into the corner of the mouth, where most damage appears to be, a bad practice in my view. In the main I agree with bobrich, 20lb line etc. Surely at Coppice 10 to12lb line and a size 10 or 8 maximum hook is more than enough.

Re: Place to go.

Chubster, didn't do Fladbury on Wednesday, went to Parks Farm [ Evesham by pass ]. River looked good but just a few small perch and a couple of small roach caught. Had a rod out for pike and had just one take, looked about 7 to 8lb but lost it near the bank. All in all very quiet really, perhaps I should have gone to Fladbury..

Pegs at the venue have been well strimmed, a good job done buy the maintanance team, a bit noisy here as the by-pass runs over the bridge but you get used to it and it is a nice stretch..
