Re: Uckinghall lillys

Hi Mat

we visited Uckinhall on the 7th of June. The team strimmed all around the pool and removed over hanging branches to make the pegs more fish-able, we also spent the day raking most of the car park pegs but i can total understand that most of that side of the pool is covered by lilliy pads.

just want to give you some information on this plant.

Lily pads offer many benefits to pond ecosystems. As we mentioned, their large leaves provide shade and protection for fish from the hot sun and predators. The roots of water lilies also help to keep ponds clean by absorbing excess nutrients that would otherwise lead to excessive algae growth.

I will have a look at a solution in the next few years on reducing some of the Lilly growth i hope you understand its not top of our priority list. That being said it has been a topic of conversation from our management team. so it hasn't been a forgot pool.

Thanks Craig.

Re: Overgrown Stretches

Hi

please contact the BAA office in working hours leave your detail and i will contact you regarding the work team. always on the look out for volunteers. work team days Monday and Wednesday.

Why have you walked right passed all the pegs from the car park its like the venue has no pegs..?

The best pegs on the lock island you walked past..? we removed a fallen tree last week to open up a peg that was blocked.

Not to sure if you saying that 30/40 pounds a year you have no pegs to fish.

Thanks Craig.

Re: Retreat Farm

Hi KenL

Picture below taken by myself on the 29.06.2. Cormorants must have missed this one and four more that the guy fishing caught why i was on site. The pools are feed by a bore hole connected to an under ground pump thus the colour of the water is so clear. Weed is good cover at the moment until the fish get bigger and when this happens the carp will start the process of coloring up the water. The swans are protected at present and are feed daily. We will keep a close eye on this and when the birds are ready i will open the gate and release the swans to go on and grow to full size.

Thanks Craig

Re: Retreat Farm

Hi KenL

We have installed a Electric fence around pool 1 and in May there was a small stocking of Carp to grow on. These have been come out to maggot float fishing. The fish are a very fine grade of carp i would say they are around the half pound mark. There is also some small Tench,Perch in there and can personally say i have seen these when the EA netting was done back in November to sample test for Top Mouth Gudgeon. We didn't find any before the next post.

why not give it a go..?

Thanks Craig
