Upper Severn fishing report September 2020

Aberbechan/Penarth

We have had another record breaking month with over 200 anglers coming from all over the country to the upper Severn and they keep coming back week after week, its fantastic!

The game anglers have had a very good month with salmon and sea trout being caught around Newtown down to Llandrinio with fish being caught to 16lb, we will not be naming particular stretches .

River running perfect first two weeks of the month after the high waters last week of August, plenty of game anglers about now with some nice brown trout and grayling being caught. One of our regular visitors Glen Irwin has been doing his roaming approach catching some nice brown trout and grayling to one and a half pound very nice fish indeed, with a lot of sea trout being caught to 5lb. Below the bridge the trotting anglers have been catching some nice bags of chub to 4lb, backed up with some lovely dace and roach.

I am very pleased to be giving you all the good news about the on-going bank work we are doing in this area, you can now walk all the way along Aberbechan/Penarth without having to go on to the canal towpath we have made a way through so you can now walk the entire lenth of the river bank creating another 15 different areas to fish along with lots more fly fishing access. All the hard work has been done by Ann, Barry, Will, Mark and our local contractor Adam Putson who has done a fantastic job, this is the first time in 20 years you have been able to walk along this stretch from end to end.
