Upper Severn fishing report September 2021

Cracking start to September, nice drop of water on about 9inch picking up at Aberbechan/Penarth down to Forden, one or two brown trout and grayling coming out to fly along with some nice chub to 3lb all on fly fishing tactics. Maginnis Bridge and Poolquay fishing very good for mixed bags of silvers to 30lb along with some nice chub and a few barbel to 7lb, all in the first few days up to the 4th.

It was good to see Stewart Mulheron and Richard on the Upper Severn having a good day on silvers and grayling around Poolquay, excellent start to September. Moving on to weekend 5th/6th Glenn Irwin one of our members from Worcester who is a regular on the Upper Severn had a cracking day on fly/nymth catching grayling to the 1lb mark. Aberbechan Abermule and Forden have picked up with the drop of water coming on, some nice silvers roach, dace, chub and grayling being caught. Some nice brown trout being caught on fly at Forden to the 2lb mark alomg with some lovely grayling caught by one of our new members Nick Hollier.

Coming towards weekend 18th, river very low again on all areas down to Poolquay.  Fishing very slow due to very low water but still catching some nice bags of silvers. Coming to last week of September just what we need a nice drop of water bringing river up about foot on all areas with some nice bags of silvers and grayling around Poolquay Rhyddesgyn and Maginnis bridge area along with one or two barbel. Underdale has been fishing better with some nice bags of silvers, bream to 6.5lb and barbel being caught.

To say conditions have been hard with low water it has been a very good show of anglers on the Upper Severn with good sport on all areas Tight Lines for October we will be looking forward to seeing you all again for some good Autumn and winter sport.

Mike and Ann Wood Upper Severn area bailiffs Powys.
