Reg, has there been issues whereby non match anglers have not been staying away from booked venues?
It has only happened to me once when fishing the Teme, not what you consider a match venue, I had just landed a Barbel when a Brummy voice announced they had booked the whole stretch and I had to pack up, there were three of them competing.

Reg - Not sure that you're 100% correct.
Unless I've misinterpreted, many contest bookings for affiliated clubs are freebies.

Copy/Paste
Any fishing club, anywhere in the country, with 15 or more members can become affiliated to the BAA completely free of charge. There are no signing-on or annual registration fees. The only condition is that each individual member of the club has to be a member of BAA. Affiliated clubs are entitled to book up to 5 contests each year on any BAA water, compatible with the number of members in the club, and on any date of their choice (subject to availability & conditions), totally free of charge. In addition, affiliated clubs may purchase extra contests on rivers, canals and some pools, at £2.00 per peg.

So, in theory, a club that only books 5 of its contests on BAA waters, doesn't pay a peg fee.

We had an issue with anglers being on our booked stretch earlier in the season.
We had booked Fladbury above bridge to arrive and find over nighters on the Nait.

Suffice to say they argued that they had paid for 2 nights and were entitled to be there but as the ticket states that is for night fishing - not for all day access when the stretch is booked.

They soon shut up and moved off the swims after they had disturbed someone at the BAA to complain but hung around and jumped back in when we had finished.

Maybe (but very doubtful) the BAA should ban the sale of night tickets if the water is booked for a match or very clearly state on the ticket that it is for NIGHT FISHING ONLY and that they should clear the pegs if the water is booked for a contest regardless of the numbers attending but thats for another subject

The BAA have now stopped the sale of night permits on venues that have matches booked the following day.

Unfortunately pleasure anglers fishing on booked waters is a problem we encounter on most river matches.Even when we have put notices up on the car park the night before we have still had people trying to fish and often moaning about having to move despite the match being booked there for months. It is frustrating when it probably takes less than 30 seconds to check the website waters booked section or give the office a quick ring in the week before.

As long as you can show them your match permit from the office, you have that stretch booked for as long as you want your match to last that day. It’s up to the club who’s match it is if they want to allow any pleasure anglers to fish any spare unused pegs but we don’t allow it.

Thanks for that Stew

Wasn't aware that was now the case with night tickets.

I posted the Contests booked info as I had read about clubs getting to waters they had booked and finding anglers on them.

At the AGM a club Secretary mentioned that this had happened to them at Blackstone.

Also John Williams did confirm that Night Tickets were not sold on waters booked for contests the following day.

I have not read the rules or the Peg fees payable for affiliated clubs, but I would like to think that it was worth it to the Association.
As long as they give the BAA the feedback on their Catches, as it is a Barometer of how the waters are fishing, or not!

Keep on Fishing

Just to be absolutely clear, we have not stopped selling night permits on venues booked for contests. What we do is advise members when they book night permits, if there is a contest booked for the following day. Some members accept this and know that they have to pack up once the club arrives, others choose not to fish on that particular night. The decision is up to the member.
Cheers
