There are no rules beyond what are included in the bye-laws. None of the rules you mention are applicable to BAA fisheries.

Re: b.a.a. match fishing rules ?

Glad to have that answered Keith. I had a look myself as I wasn't sure if floating baits would be allowed, there are BAA contest rules under the tab BAA/Rules. But it doesn't mention any of the things you queried and it does state the rules only apply to contests run by the association.

It goes on to say: Clubs holding contests on BAA water are not obliged to adhere to these rules, and may add to them or amend them as they see fit. (subject always to the bye-laws of the Association and The Environment Agency)

So as you say, common sense can prevail!

See you a week tomorrow mate.

Re: b.a.a. match fishing rules ?

Hi Meatman & carlingford59

Like many anglers, I've not fished a BAA match, so thought I'd familiarise myself with the rules that John has advised us of, and there doesn't seem to be many match rules.

I've been watching some experienced middle Severn barbel enthusiast video's and copying there methods - makes common sense (I thought). Yet my mate doesn't think It's allowed to bait before the whistle or use 2 rods may not be allowed on matches (but the bye-laws does permit).

So, applying an individuals unpublished 'common sense' rules is a little presumptuous that we are all singing off the same common sense hymn sheet and may cause some confusion.

For the avoidance of doubt, If we are not fishing to the BAA match association rules, it would be useful for me & others to see our friendly club version of the rules please.

Re: b.a.a. match fishing rules ?

rules as follows:
only one rod/pole to used at a time.
no bait to be introduced to swim before whistle is blown for start of match
you can plunb up and throw a feeder in before whistle but hooks MUST NOT be baited.
no hook bans apart from treble and double hooks , so any size barbed or barbless allowed but only 1 hook allowed on each rig used.
keep nets allowed to be put in water before match starts.
only bait bans will be any type of lure/fly, live or dead bait.
all other baits allowed including floating baits.
only fish up to half way across pool so not to interfere with anglers on other side of pool.
there is no rule on top weight in keep nets but just be sensible don't cram to many carp into one net.use two keep nets where possible and split carp and silvers.
do not wrap fish in towles when unhooking.
take all your rubbish home with you.
