Hello fellow d’anglers,
Have any of you fished with Blackcurrants or Elderberries?

If you have the BBC iPlayer App then watch the episode Wild Britain on the Countryfile programme.

There is an article at about 34 minutes where a chap in Nottinghamshire who specialises in filming Freshwater fish under water in their natural habitat.

He was amazed by the reaction of the Chub in the river that were feeding on the Blackcurrants that were falling into the river, he likened it to a dinner gong being sounded when the fruit fell into the water. He said that Elderberries also had the same effect

I took a screenshot as it was amazing to see.

We used to catch Chub on elderberries on the Teme below Tenbury usually in September. That was when it was full of them. Very few Chub left to go for now although the Dace are starting to recover which is a welcome sign.

Hello fellow d’anglers
Further to the replies from bin and Temester and as the colder temperatures are now here I have been having a look at some of the You Tube Fishing Vids that are available to view and I have just watched a clip of John Arthur fishing a rarely fished section of river last Winter in cold conditions.

His method was using a block-end feeder filled with breadcrumbs and fishing with 3 pieces of punched bread on a hair rig.

He caught a nice Chub and as he unhooked it, it coughed up what John initially thought was a Caster, which he thought was strange.
On closer examination it proved to be the skin of a Hawthorn Berry!
If they were good enough for Isaac Walton then worth a try

I was fishing on the River Mease several years ago when I used to put chub in a keepnet. I was catching on maggots but the chub in the keepnet were spewing out hawthorn berries.
