Hello Fellow D’anglers,
Have you seen the news about the Farmer that totally destroyed the bankside of a stretch of the River Lugg at Kingsland near Leominster!

He has been sent to Prison for 12 months and been fined in excess of £1 million pounds.
However
You cannot put a price on the long term damage that has been done to the ecology of the river and the wildlife that formerly inhabited the bankside!!

So sad to see what has been done

Yes Reg, a terrible sudden loss of bankside habitat.
Nature has a relentless tenacity and hopefully a recovery with some assistance will be underway.
It would be interesting to know how the riverbed, invertebrate life and fish react and recover from this. From images of the event taking place the riverbed was scoured out with a bulldozer removing vast amounts of sediment. It would be fascinating to see the results from surveys of recovery rates regarding spawning and wonder if something may be learnt from such habitat destruction.

Hi Mr Fishy
Yes the level of destruction was savage to say the least!

It would be interesting to learn what the Environmental Agency has done to the riverbed?

Have they introduced shingle to encourage Trout spawning ground?

Let us hope for nature to help in its recovery

Keep on Fishing…

An appropriate punishment for causing such devastation.
Be nice if those responsible for the huge trail of destruction wreaked across England in the name of HS2 were held to account. Ancient woodlands destroyed,SSSI's bulldozed, thousands of acres of wildlife habitat and farmland gone for the forseable future. All in the name of the UK's most expensive folly. A railway system that will be prohibitively expensive to travel on(if and when it is completed)that will grind to a halt if a leaf blows onto the line.
