Re: River wye

Hi, First the Wye and Usk foundation can`t make regulations, they sell tickets via their web site for many stretches (worth looking up). The whole of the Wye is catch & release for Salmon. It is also Fly and Spin only. Also be aware new regulations will probably be introduced shortly for Salmon and Sea Trout in Wales. They will also be applied to "at risk" rivers in England. However as the Wye contains more coarse fish than Salmon you can worm etc. for Chub & Barbel !! Trebles may be banned (not too sure about smaller ones on flies & spinners yet). They will also need to be barbless. Keep a look out for these new rules, hope this helps.

Thanks it does, I used to fish for salmon years ago on the vyrnwy and upper Severn during the coarse close season never caught much but enjoyed it enormously.

Re: River wye

Hi,

Yep, you can fish for salmon at Stacklands. Season on the wye starts 3rd March. We’ll (myself and Glynn the bailiffs) be there most if not every day to help and advise if required. The EA will visit so be sure to sort out your migratory fish licence. As previously mentioned the wye is strictly catch and release, try and unhook in the water if you can. Spinning and fly is fine although no spinning after 1st August. worming, prawns, a strict no no with very heavy fines. Trebles and barbs are CURRENTLY still allowed although as mentioned there is a proposal that will more than likely go through to ban them, keep an eye on the NRW website for more details.

Spring fish are rare but big, angry and aggressive, tackle up accordingly. Stacklands is one big snag so bring plenty of kit if spinning, braid is my preference there due to the snags.

Good luck, hope to see you on the bank.
