I couldn't agree more with you . I walk the Middle Severn quite a lot (Stop at the Ship for a sharpener ) I despair when I seen folk fishing in a perfect trotting peg with a feeder. I have caught loads of Barbel on the float. Some days they will ignore a static bait .
